Reputational & political payoffs for Trump, were he to decisively arm & support Ukraine now, are incalculable. With consistent follow-through he would become a Nobel-worthy world-historical figure.

Somehow, even after all these years, almost no one has fully grasped the obvious psychological truth about him. Trump is an intellectual, behavioral, and emotional six-year old. He is an extreme case of arrested development. And I mean this in the most literal and factual sense. He is six.
