Good morning and happy Indigenous Peoples' Day! Here are several books by one of my favorite indigenous author, Erika T. Worth. Her books are perfect for spooky season 👻🎃
This week I will be starting my buddy read of House of Hunger by Alexis Henderson. Come join me via the Fable app.
Today was a powerful reminder that in its pure form, art is a radical act: the true path to resistance and absolute freedom.

Happy Saturday!

An afternoon at the Birmingham Museum of Art with the hubby became more than just a visit; it was a revelation. Some of the exhibits are truly breathtaking. I've always believed art is the language of the soul, speaking truths the eyes can't always grasp.

Much like Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower, this is a gut punching testament to human destruction, a literary warning sign for a world on the brink. A must read for those who find truth in the darkest apocalyptic narratives.
Long before our current crises, @levarburton.bsky.social's brilliant mind birthed a dystopian masterpiece... a novel so acutely observed, it reads like a prophecy for today.

The hubby and I went outside today and enjoyed the botanical gardens. Here is where serenity can be found.
The YNs of Center Point are hella disrespectful! I was trying to sleep and read at the same time! 🤣
It finally feels like fall at home with the fall/pumpkin decor out! 🍂 🍁 🎃
This week has been challenging but reading has helped me navigate the nonsense. 🤣

What books did you all read this week?

Finally! Holding the album of the YEAR feels surreal yet exhilarating. I don't even care that the vinyl won't come until the day of my birthday... This baby going straight to my car with the volume all the way TF up!
Wait, there is going to be a third book?
Some of the hoods in Birmingham are so pretty.

Happy Wednesday!

This month proved challenging but in good way. I read four solid books three of which I absolutely enjoyed and the fourth kinda left me wanting more. However, I am excited about all the books I will read for the month of October since it's the start of spooky season!
Visiting The Legacy Museum today was what I needed to shift my focus back to where it should always be, on my people. Black people have sacrificed so much just to thrive in hostile territory, but here all I felt is peace amongst the painful truth of our existence in America.
Happy Friday Book Besties!
