How strict is your criteria? Do they count if they launched as a spin-off, backdoor pilot or movie of the week before going to series? How about Barnaby Jones, Marcus Welby or Quincy? I admit to not knowing much about their early development
I’ve seen so many versions of Hound on film. But when I read the book, I hear John Gielgud’s voice from his radio adaptation. I had a recording on cassette and played it until it wore out. As a kid in the 1980s, it was my first exposure to Holmes and began my lifelong obsession
I thought the Friday the 13th TV series was Friday the 13th:The Series
Sorry if that came off badly. It’s not that I don’t ever buy new stuff. But money is tight and I need to pick and choose. Love your stuff, new and old
My comic shopping is limited to mostly the dollar bins. And the issues need to be at least 30 years old
For me, it goes in descending order of rewatchability (under the line means no desire to watch again):

Dark Knight
Batman
Batman Begins
Batman Returns
Batman: The Movie
Dark Knight Rises
Batman Forever
—————
The Batman
Batman & Robin
Batman v Superman
Batman & Robin (serial)
Batman (serial)
It makes sense that the visionaries behind those movies were kids in the 1940s and 50s. They were fans of the serials. They understood the cultural context. They saw endless potential in a form that others dismissed as b-movie dreck. That generation and its worldview is fading
There’s a lot of nostalgia for the urban grit of the ‘70s. But I wonder if the grittiness has simply moved to rural life. I’ve been watching shows like Task and Mare From Easttown. They show how drugs and the relocation of industrial jobs have hollowed out small towns
Spider-Man (from the storyline where he sprouted extra arms) meets Brundlefly (from The Fly). “Been there.”
Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) vs Dracula (Gary Oldman). “I know Batman. Batman is a friend of mine. And you’re no Batman.”
The Dial H For Hero kids vs the Grabber from The Black Phone
Pop culture is a snake that swallows its own tail. Remember the Flash Gordon movie (1980) that drowned in the wake of Star Wars? Or what about those Allan Quartermain movies with Richard Chamberlain that tried to replicate the success of Indiana Jones?
Bustin’ makes ME feel good
Credit Basil Rathbone on the Captain Blood cover. He deserves it for that sword fight
GM and VR serve different purposes. The rhythms and length of GM are great for easing a young child to sleep. VR is too long for that purpose. It’s better for an older child who is ready for a more involved narrative and complex themes of loss and sacrifice
Retconned character substitutions (Dinah in place of Diana) are always awkward and every effort should be made to avoid them. Even so, I love to see Dinah outshine the boys
Ah, I should’ve recognized the origin of the JSA from your caption. Ma Hunkel DID appear at the first meeting but only as a joke. An acknowledgement of her presence would have been nice. Wonder Woman would come along soon enough
A real boy's club in that grouping. No Wonder Woman, Black Canary, Hawkgirl or Red Tornado (Ma Hunkel). Otherwise, it's a nice pic
I know. It's a long time for Jean to be evil. Has she ever been redeemed?
