Clear skies. Arctic silence. And a tower ready for the next decade of data.

Bonus: first permanent installation of a #LI7700 methane analyser at the site.
Thanks to Lars, and to Kent & Niels at the station for logistics support.
Also, credit to Marcin for laying the groundwork.

We shipped over 500 kg of gear in the past year and worked in -20 to -10 °C to install a new mast, combining eddy covariance and meteorological sensors.
This time, above bear height.

Just returned from 2 weeks at #Zackenberg Research Station @zackenberg.bsky.social (NE Greenland) to upgrade the #ICOS Ecosystem tower at the fen site GL-ZaF.
Damages from polar bears had made the original structure vulnerable. Time for change.
The deadline is closing in on this PhD opportunity.

We’re excited to announce the launch of our new online application system for Zackenberg Research Station! The application deadline is January 15, 2025. More info on our website g-e-m.dk/gem-localiti...

We look forward to receiving your submissions and hope you enjoy using the new system!
Congratulations! Nice to see another peatland station in #ICOS
Throwback to Aug fieldwork, NE Greenland: Maintenance and calibration of #ICOS eddy covariance stations at Zackenberg - plus endless task of repairing instruments after polar bear visits. Also prepped and optimized the autonomous power system (solar, wind, fuel cells) to endure long Arctic winter.
