During an episode of "Monitoring the Situation," the podcast for the venture capitalist firm that Andreessen cofounded, A16z, he said advancements in AI technology — like OpenAI's Sora 2 — have made it possible for a new type of filmmaker to emerge.

"The filmmaker with no visual skill, or access to a set, or to a camera, or to actors, but with an idea," Andreessen said on Friday. "It's going to start with shorts and animated things and so forth, but it's going to work its way up to full movies."

I can't really quantify it, but all the improvements they're making seem like clever attempts to make a perpetual motion device, or a perfect compression algorithm that reduces the size of every input, running multiple substitution ciphers expecting a more secure result, etc.

I’ve used it at the advice of colleagues, for use cases that it should have been great at (translating existing code to a syntactically similar language, the most clear instructions you could give), and it was still a massive waste of time that made more work than it saved.

Had this coding assessment for a job that, I must stress, was not an ML, computer vision, or data science role. I wonder if their lead engineer has that background and just doesn’t understand what most people would consider a simple programming task.

Task:
Extract the heart rate from the person in codingtest.mov using Kotlin, C++, or Swift and any packages you like.
Recommended path:
1. Average the pixels over a portion of the forehead for the green channel vs. time (the heart rate is strongest in the green channel).
2. Perform a Fourier analysis on the green channel signal vs. time to extract the heart rate.
• Look for the peak in the PSD within a reasonable heart-rate range
• Ignore other prominent peaks outside of physiological ranges.
Deliverables:
A small project or script that prints the estimated BPM.
• A short README with:
• How to run it
The BPM you measured on the clip
Submission:
Reply back to the email with either a GitHub link or a zip of the code + README.
Time Estimate:
This should take about 1 hour.
