This is Chop. He was shot and killed by masked assailants in plain clothes who go by ICE. They showed up at his door "looking for migrants after receiving a tip." The son of the family asked if they could wait before entering the home while he put Chop away in the bathroom, as the dog can be aggressive with strangers.
According to the family, it is at this point that the son went to his pickup truck to retrieve his ID and a Border Patrol agent entered the home, opened the bathroom door, and shot Chop. None of the agents helped the family, who desperately tried to render aid to Chop, as he bled to death on the kitchen floor. Unsurprisingly, the agent who shot their dog then hid from them and refused to give his name. Even more unsurprising, they did not find any evidence of the migrants they were there to terrorize in the first place.
Do not open your door for these fucking losers. Rest easy Chop

Thank you for the cri! I love writing, I've come to hate submitting, and I periodically question whether the (somewhat token) validation of being a "real, published writer" is worth it. Or is it just for social occasions when I don't feel like talking about my dayjob and need to bolster "I write?"

Middle managers like myself ought not exist. There should be (1) work that creates obvious value, (2) people who are experts at doing that work, and (3) people who are learning to do that work. Anything more creates obfuscating layers between people and the ground truth represented by (1).

Putting aside Epstein, can Mike Johnson simply refuse swearing in Rep. Adelita Grijalva, like Mitch McConnell simply refused to confirm Obama's Supreme Court pick? Is there nothing that can force the issue? Can he simply refuse to swear in any new Democrats?

The King In Yellow, The Crimson King, The King In Black and other horror kings, but they're all active statesmen, diplomats, and administrators. Never just posing on their dread thrones, but constantly walking and talking to a host of functionaries and receiving reports. Still evil, but very busy.

I'm genuinely interested to learn what China is doing to increase productivity and quality of life. If my employer requires me to use this, I owe them an honest try. Is there a particular This Machine Kills episode that gets into the details?

Here's the rub: in the many companies where leaders mandate an internal "AI transformation" in the name of productivity, when generative AI doesn't deliver on the hype, the blame is put on the workers for not using it right, not the technology for false promises.
