— The first books I ever actively brought and read properly were the GoT ones.

Dropped outta school. Stuck at home. Binged the show. Heard the books were good and I figured I had time to burn so I thought I’d try them.

And that’s when books clicked for me.
They started that passion.

— I got into this hobby by mistake. I was writing a Twitter account during the tail end of COVID with the premise being what-if the Twelfth Doctor had his own Twitter account.

Some RPers followed me. I kinda ignored them until my friend Kiki befriended me and now here I am!

— I HATE Terry Pratchett books.

I respect he was a GOAT writer. As a fact I am aware of this. But as a punishment as a kid and teen (when I hated reading) I was forced to read and my father-in-law had loads of his books just on the shell.

So I just associate his stuff with that and yeah.

— My first ever actual writing story I wrote was when I was like 10? It was a small story about Noble Squad from Halo Reach fighting Skorge from Gears Of War Two.

I won a school award for it.
(I am embarrassed by it as an adult).

- Ziro’s lore to facilitate that. Ziro falls as he does in the lore and Kaedum simply steps in afterwards.

That’s the best example I can really think of for what I mean. I like it when an OC character can fit-in naturally with the lore rather than rewriting it to suit your OC.

As an example: My OC Kaedum.

He does have a history with some established characters. But it’s not in a way that actively redefines the characters in lore-breaking ways. Nor does his story really alter the lore.

He becomes the Crimeboss of Coruscant after the fall or Ziro, but I didn’t rewrite -

Hot take time:

I don’t tend to love OC’s who bend the lore of the universe they are in, in a way that makes them feel like a main character.

The best OCs (in my opinion) are ones crafted like side or minor characters. They’re characters who are mesh great into the lore in non-invasive ways.

I try to write OC’s with that in mind.
Because you can write a fascinating and in-depth character while respecting established lore.

The best characters ever are often the smaller and more niche ones. Embrace that people!

I feel like that’s a little heavy handed? I’d much prefer a character who fits in but doesn’t overshadow the -
