Huh, things seeming as they are. Curse this geographic realism! *shakes fist futilely at universe*

I suspect the answer is that plane ticket costs are low compared to the effort required to move a whole promotional event to a different day/week/month. Which I guess is simply impossible in many cases as venues have their own existences to deal with.

If it really is conspiracy rather than cock-up, it seems odd that *this* would be the path they settled on to do it.

Those seem… quite far apart

This fact may be useless, but it's also pretty cool

because the only reason I got there was because I was really quite unwell with Crohns. I've since been much healthier and put on nearly 10 kg. Sure I could stand to get back to doing more exercise and shed a bit of that weight, but I definitely shouldn't be as low as I was

Yup, BMI is crazy. To have a single scale applied to the entire population without any nuance over individuals almost *must* end up crazy by definition.

I was not that long ago in the "normal" range of BMI (just at the upper end), but I know that wasn't healthy for me…

Oh no, another bad apple from this barrel. I'm sure if we throw this one out and don't check the rest, they'll turn out to be all perfectly fine.

Hmmm, I moved from the UK to Poland, so am a migrant, and I never did A-level English. (In fact I was in the Scottish system, but that's a whole other thing.) So, am I getting turned away at the border next time I try to come to the UK?

Oh no. You are That Guy.

[Definitely not just bitter that my fantasy football season is mostly in tatters already]

Truss is vile and crazy, obviously, but she's so ineffectual at pretty much everything, has anything she's done since leaving office had any effect (good or bad) at all?
Cameron is less comically crazy, but I suspect he's successfully inserted himself in consequential places and done more harm
purble.bsky.social
I think Cameron coming back like that at all was more than enough from him…

Seems like the actual unhinged opinion would be "Ulysses is a great book, I loved it!"

He's… mad about… you using an app? And thinks Tim Berners Lee gives a flying fuck one way or the other? For some reason?

[Deep breaths. Don't rise to the bait. Don't give her what she wants…]

Look, OK, I don't even particularly like tea, but this skeet is a hate crime against British people and all of humanity, and…

[Damnit.]

Not necessarily the main point, but has he not updated his photo in 9 years?

We just got the panto every christmas. If you think pantos are bad (or even if you think they're good) you're not prepared for them with 500-1000 bored school kids who don't really want to be there and are only marginally grudgingly grateful this is better than 3rd period Geography.

Definitely "weeg"/"woog" (strong north/south dialect divide between the two)

Don't be crazy, we only have work done the month we're on the Riviera in the summer, so we'll never need to interact with the workers directly.

At least, I assume that's how it goes with people who can afford flats like that.

I hate that "theatrical" and "stagey" are viewed as negatively as they seem to be.
