An interesting article about the impact of consumers drinking less in restaurants - first time I have heard the phrases "damp drinking" for drinking less volume overall or "99% sober" for a mostly dry lifestyle with the occasional exception! www.theguardian.com/food/2025/oc...

Beer choice wasn’t as bad as I expected @universityofleeds.bsky.social Students Union last Night! Few too many bat queues at the start of the evening but then people remembered sensible bar etiquette as the evening went on! @wyattflores1.bsky.social was excellent!

Given that research shows people are going out earlier and going home earlier I don't really see how this is going to help pubs or boost UK growth? Pubs need a reduction in business rates and a lowering of VAT, which in turn will boost the economy!: www.theguardian.com/business/202...

It hasn’t risen as fast as the price has, and the taxes, energy, ingredients etc have all gone up!
professorpub.bsky.social
They raise the prices any further and no one will be able to afford them apart from as a luxury! Average price is over £5 now with profit tiny and in London you can be looking at a £10 pint!

? The pubs are pretty full but can’t make a living due to government legislation and taxes!

"...most UK adults now prefer to drink at home, and 63% regard alcohol as a luxury. Pubs must embed themselves as hubs of everyday community life to overcome this trend." @StroudBrewery
