I never really gave myself an introduction, so here we go:

I’m a professional 3D generalist living in Canada with over 10 years of industry experience. I mostly work on interactive mixed reality/AR content for major brands, but I used to work on 3D animated kid’s TV shows.

This is correct! It’s called overdraw, and it’s the same reason framerates can tank in games if you are inside a smoke grenade or have your camera really close to overlapping transparent effects. The closer the camera is, the more pixels need to be processed. And transparency is expensive!
