Ugly or not the proposed replacement is uglier-totally out of scale. More to the point. to do that to a publicly owned highly symbolic building with NO public consultation is exactly what No Kings was about. Not even our UK king can do that. He is acting like a megalomaniacal despot.

It's completely out of scale, quite apart from involving destruction of the East Wing. The Palladian "pavilions" at the end of colonnades extending from an important building are supposed to be SMALLER:

Houghton Hall, an eighteenth century Palladian mansion built for Britain's first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole. It is flanked by two curving colonnades with smaller "pavilion" buildings at the ends.

It seems that way but I do think that there is a pervasive folk sciency belief that “biological sex” characteristics and hormones are read directly off our DNA, and so “chromosomal sex” IS biological sex. And anything else is “artificial”.

Well duh. How on earth do GCs think biological sex works? Do they not notice the effect of hormones on the body during puberty? Or do they think it’s all “chromosomes”?

The last rendering does in fact make it clear that the ballroom will REPLACE the east wing. Not sure why people did not notice this. Also the plans do. And Leavitt said it would be situated where the East Wing is. I’m not even an American and I’ve never been to Washington. People have been asleep.

The “real” projections also use misleading perspective to minimise the bulk of the new building. Someone should redraw them in isometric or something to show how out of scale it is. As you say, no lie is needed - the real renderings are also dishonest.

Yes. They are basically destroying US medical research. But the US isn't the only country with the capaicty for good research, and at some point it will have to get back in the game, because ethics are ethics, and sound methodology is sound methodology. And junk science is junk science.

One more response (having been figuring it out on the train): yes zero power would be when the blades are spinning so fast the are flow is parallel to the blades. But the cart turbine drives the wheels (plus blades) INTO the headwind. So the effective pitch adjusts to the effective wind speed.
