Sshhhhhh... don't give away my secret.
Last week was #bannedbooksweek and we celebrated by reading and discussing some banned children's books. Highly recommend this one for a giggle plus some important discussions around what you can do to help prevent book banning in your community!

This is all me assuming though because scarecrows also wind up being some of my favorite characters (wizard of oz/the wiz and also my favorite batman villain) but I can't do them in horror settings. Sometimes even just driving past corn fields at night in the autumn ratchets my anxiety up to 100%.
See, I don't know. I did read (and love) that series as a kid and I do vividly remember that story along with the meat grinder one (IYKYK) but no. I grew up in a town surrounded by corn growing farmland and there was a "haunted hay ride" type thing every fall and I think it came from there? Maybe?
This is brought up because I've been absolutely enjoying all the Steddie Monster Calandar prompt fics but you couldn't pay me to read the scarecrows ones. I'm sorry. I will love all the rest of them. Please keep those abominations away from me.
As a person who loves horror. I live and breathe it. There is absolutely one thing I cannot do.

Scarecrows.

It is the only thing that makes me immediately clam up and hide. Which sounds so pathetic but close friends have seen it happen in real time. I couldn't even tell you why. It's pathological.

This video has literally been ten months in the making and has gone through several iterations, just to break containment and become a multi-part series... sooo enjoy pt 1 of my thoughts on some of the best* #horror of last year.

I want to say that despite dragging my feet while reading this one, I always forget how much I enjoy King's short fiction. I picked this up on release last year and I'm glad to be reading it...

BUT ☝️

I'm halfway through and none* of this is horror

*an argument could be made for 1 twist ending
I've been working all year on a video where I read some of the best* horror books of last year. I wanted to have it up today for the start of October. It may not be up today as I'm still making my way through You Like It Darker... but soooooon.

As a person who has been told I talk too quickly my whole life (especially when excited or impassioned) I would like to use this as a tool to speed everyone else up. Why don't they get on my level for once? Skill issue?
The ability to 2x speed videos on almost every app is a great quality of life thing. I love it, dearly.

Unfortunately... my ability to listen to people talk at normal speed without getting bored is slowly diminishing.
Why must it feel like my hips are no longer connected to my spine and the only thing holding my lower half to my upper half are my back muscles? I am not a fan of this sensation. -5/10 do not recommend.
I've been getting them for a while because I enjoy cooking/meal prep videos and home garden videos both have a lot of fundy stay at home moms making them. So I know the pain.
Dearest #steddie peeps,

Can I humbly request some long-form fic recs to download as emotional support while AO3 is down?

Please and thanks!

Olive oil/butter, minced garlic, montral steak seasoning (which the internet tells me is garlic, onion, salt, black pepper, coriander, dill and red pepper flakes). Although red pepper can be left out if you have gerd issues.

Pesto as well, is a good option.

Scampi is delicious if lemons are ok.
Exactly. They are the weird ones. We are chill and normal.
Right? Plus the (probably autism) metaphor of trying to be liked by an entirely different species... attempting to anticipate what something unknowable will appreciate knowing that half of it is guess work and reading microexpressions to gage and course correct a conversation. Awful. Horrible.
Like today ... my guy at one point had to survive a dinner with cannibal snail people and I was like ah, yes... social anxiety but you've raised the stakes. Now I have to be cool and entertaining... OR GET EATEN.
Rofl. Well ... on the bright side ... if the axe murderers win, you don't have to do the play?

But also that sounds horrible because its the worst part of both types of nightmares. Sometimes I can tell what fear my subconscious is playing with.
I'd much rather have normal nightmares where I'm naked at school or like doing poorly at work and getting reprimanded ... instead I get to be a man spontaniously traveling through dimensions closely chased by death as evident by everyone around him dying in gruesome ways in front of him.
Every time I wake up from a nightmare (they tend to be hyper violent and filled with detailed gore/death) I feel like I should write then down because they would make banger horror stories but I'm too distressed at the time to do it. Plus I dont want to rehash it again. Literally shaking right now.
