Sometimes, I have these "big sister moments," where I feel like I'm meant to communicate something to my younger brother. Most recently, he asked how my week had gone.

"It was rough, emotionally."

He then lecture-texted me w/ parenting advice I had not asked for.

And he's childless.

I handed my overdue library books. Nearly 30 years after I borrowed them. I offered to pay the fine (£10 x 3) but the bemused librarian waived the fee. If procrastination was a superpower, I'd be up there with Spiderman and Wonder woman.

Addictive substances have certain qualities: Speed of effect, withdrawal symptoms, reliability (ie, it works every time)continued use despite knowledge of harmful effects. Nicotine, in particular when smoked, ticks all these boxes.
