Resurrection of the Don.

Salmon have returned to England’s River Don for the first time since the Industrial Revolution. Once biologically dead from steel-mill pollution, the river has been steadily revived through habitat restoration and clean-ups.

Waiting on Platform 8 for the late-running 07:30 to Harrogate is bad enough already!

This looks good - anything built around creating shared narratives gets off to a very good start👍

It does have a bit of a "long drop" vibe but I'm assuming it was built for track surveillance reasons!

Out in yesterday's sun and warmth to Lemonroyd Lake (basically the south-west bit of St.Aidans RSPB reserve).

PSA: People on bikes aren’t swerving to annoy drivers, they’re just trying not to die or destroy their mode of transportation.
This is generally what the bike portion looks like of our “shared” roads. Glorious.

This is a lie.

There are many criticisms you might sensibly and truthfully make of the Sentencing Council and the Sentencing Guidelines. I’ve been making them for years.

But this is an outright lie. Pure fabrication. A fraud on the public.

It breaks my mind that two British political parties have seen scenes like this and decided to try and replicate it in Britain. Thuggary, lawlessness, state brutality. Farage and Badenoch decided they liked the look of it.

This video of Chicagoans intervening to save a man from being abducted off the streets by ICE is making the rounds on Instagram.

Community action works.

Both Labour and the Conservatives were stronger, more intellectually vigorous & commanded a larger share of the vote when they were broad churches, able to contain different strands of opinion.

Recently they've developed a taste for purges, loyalty tests & expulsions.

How's that going for them? 🧵

Our pal John Gilham has visited Vauban in Freiburg - basically the UK's built wishlist for sustainable urban development - and sent photos & words on the experience of being there. It's now a blog on YoCo's website at www.yoco.uk/blog/vauban-... as part of our discussion of what "good" looks like.
