Reintroduction...
I'm a neuroscientist interested in emotion-motivation-cognition interactions.
Interested in conceptual/foundational issues.
I also wrote a book for general audience readers called The Entangled Brain that is open access at MIT Press.

The Entangled Brain
A new vision of the brain as a fully integrated, networked organ.Popular neuroscience accounts often focus on specific mind-brain aspects like addiction, cog...

But I'll definitely take a look at the piece.

thanks. Oh, I think it's very easy to criticize it. Even I (not a physicist) could do it! But I've been influenced by Kauffman so I thought it was stimulating.

In its present form one can't really compute the measures they propose, in fact, probably not possible in principle. In any case, very provocative.
@wiringthebrain.bsky.social you might enjoy if haven't seen yet.

𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗹𝗮𝘄𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀?
Thought-provoking piece on properties of systems.
Including the Law of Increasing Functional Information, which applies to both biological and non-biological systems.
Physicists will probably not like this at all...

Right, excellent point. Let's write a paper like that 😀

Why deep? Why RNN? If the goal is to understand something challenging, sure that's an interesting example. But there's not the brain...

Join our discussion Oct 23 Felipe!!

Thanks, looks great. Maybe Ned Block @neddo.bsky.social would be interested in joining the discussion with Anil Seth Oct 23 and/or we can organize another salon 😁

Very few things. Unfortunately he rejected evolutionary thinking by other scholars. Had her sided with them where would we be today!!

🚨Big news!🚨
The lab is relocating to Lisbon, joining a great team of experimental and theoretical neuroscientists, and the Neurotechnology Warehouse, a new initiative to bridge basic and translational research.

I'll be sharing postdoc openings soon. Come join us in this new incarnation of the lab!

Super interesting, thanks for sharing. This is very valuable in the context of foundation models for neuroscience, of which I'm very skeptical.

This might be harsh but if they can't really write well enough (in the scientific sense) it needs to be rejected. Imo a reviewer or editor's role is not to write it for them. Of course one can always suggest clarifying the study's motivation, background literature discussion, etc.
pessoabrain.bsky.social
I would say no. I guess one can do this judiciously but the review process is not a place for this exchange. Imo
