They expect loss of subsidies to remove younger, healthier people from their risk pool (they’re probably right). That increases the costs for everyone left.
You're utterly missing their point. They aren't throwing anyone - least of all trans people - under the bus. They're just not RUNNING on that issue. You get to choose what you run on. Then when in power you do what you feel is right.
The central assumption of I guess all journalists now is that the Dems can and eventually will save us. If instead the Dems stand firm and let SNAP go away and people starve, journalists' heads will explode. Same thing Putin thinks about the West: They'll cave because they can't stand suffering.
That means a message is left for all GOP Senators in the cloakroom (the room just off the floor) asking how they'd vote on a certain bill. Apparently he asked and at least one member said they would not allow a unanimous request to go forward on that bill (probably several did).
We don’t have to change that perception. We’re not trying to parent, or teach, voters. We’re trying to win elections. Campaign on something else, win, then deal with ICE when in power.
The minute we internalize and accept that the median voter simply doesn’t care that much who wins elections or what they do when they win, and yet cast votes that count just as much as ours, we will start winning.
"Illegal" is different than "impossible." He has no lever to pull to cancel elections, or other fever dreams of the neurotic too-online left. While it is illegal for him to not spend appropriated money, he has the money. He has a lever to pull. It is impossible for him to cancel elections.
The re-redistricting edge won't be anywhere near 8 seats. 5 is pushing it. Right now it's even to maybe a slight D advantage. The big player remaining is Florida, but it's already gerrymandered to the hilt.
There’s something effed up about the amount of attention and energy being devoted to a Dem nominee about to win a mayoral race in a Dem dominated city. We SO want to be miffed around here.
So? I'm not sure why that matters. This whole line of thought seems to be just pure PTSD on our parts. He could be "trying" to machine gun everyone who voted for a Democrat, too. Who cares. Fight the fight in front of you not the one way WAY down the line.
When are people going to realize that every tech gadget or app that is offered for sale has the ultimate purpose of selling you and your information to the highest bigger. That literally is the whole business model of modern tech.
Not really, gotta say. Those of us who work in fields like this just have no patience for broader social ideology, for anything that takes resources or energy or time away from our clients. And we get SO much of it. It's exhausting.
Curious that R’s seem so enthusiastic about making Mamdani the titular head of their opponents’ party. Man that guy better be damn good. I have a lot of De Blasio vibes about him myself.
