It’s unconscionable to me that more experienced scientists will be overly critical of early career scientists at conferences, only to get up for their own presentation and say “the fact I’m about to share came from AI so take it with a grain of salt.” What are we even doing?

Location on Central/Broadway is still kicking!

We had enough theater kids in my classes to make this experience halfway decent but I knew I made a mistake when I volunteered to read for Polonius during Hamlet

Shakespeare (and I would say most plays) are so much better viewed than read. At least when we read those in class we assigned roles and read out loud to get partway there. One of the few times where maybe watching a movie would be better than (or a helpful addition to) reading the book

Instead of having us actually read the Inferno, my teachers did a much lengthier breakdown of who everyone was and why they were in each circle and it ended up being more of a history lesson. Was very helpful when I read it on my own later on

I think they’re popular for late night now and I see people carrying their pizza boxes around any given time I’m in that area too. Also understand the size thing re: egg on a roll. For my usual breakfast portion it’s enough but I can see it being too small if you want a heartier meal

The coffee shop scene is also chain-dominated, which is so sad to me. Fortunately it seems like Pizza Karma has been really popular since it opened. I love egg on a roll but don’t know how often I would’ve splurged on a weekday brekkie sandwich in undergrad

Yeah just opened in January :/ So soon

They’re fairly affordable but wondering if price point is still too high for college crowd. Guess I’ll schlep to Broadway from now on *sigh*

It did seem too good to be true but Egg on a Roll closing in Dinkytown is very devastating for me personally

Somewhat to Sam’s point, I would much rather walk on Washington than bike on Washington. But there still seems to be an overall preference for biking on streets like that among the drive-less/car-free crowd. I’d rather walk/transit to the North Loop than bike to it so I don’t need to bike *in* it
panikadoc.bsky.social
It’s interesting that a lot of the issues people are naming also make these streets hostile to biking, but by and large, people still prefer to bike. Personally I feel way less safe on bike on the problem streets and would rather walk
panikadoc.bsky.social
My first preference for getting around is walking if at all possible and this makes me feel so seen because I haven’t put words to this phenomenon before

…it is really shocking how there is almost no culture of walking to things here compared to a lot of MSP’s peer cities. Whether people here drive, bike, or take transit, almost everyone seems to consider it a major inconvenience to have to walk more than two blocks on either end.

I was in the Phoenix burbs this weekend and was surprised by how many people walked to businesses despite the urban design being pretty hostile to pedestrians. Could’ve been the mild weather but maybe it’s always like that. If people are walking to strip malls in Scottsdale we truly have no excuse

I was hiking on a trail in Arizona yesterday and everyone said hi while passing on the trail (as you do) except for the family wearing Loons and Twins stuff. I was reminded of how living in Minnesota has broken me a little re: passing stranger interactions

That’s my biggest thing - by the time I get my bike situated and out of my unit and down the elevator I’ve taken 5 minutes. Also why I’d rather wait for my high frequency bus most of the time even when it takes a couple minutes more than biking. My order of preference is walking>transit>biking
panikadoc.bsky.social
YES. I would prefer to walk a mile, a lot of my friends would prefer to bike a mile. I think despite saying we have slower Midwest living, people still want to get places the fastest way

Very sad I’m missing Renee Rapp/Laufey/Lorde weekend, might be the most fun weekend downtown this fall
panikadoc.bsky.social
I will never forget seeing a kid no older than 9 in an elevator in Madison and asking if he had fun at the football game, only to be met with a sour “I lost my bets on the other games” while the mom was all hahaha he’s so silly. The parents are no help

Surely it will be great for athletes to further exacerbate all the problems their peers face from sports betting

NIL was such a battle and this seemed to happen so easily? Tf is this

College athletes may be allowed to bet on pro sports soon 👀

The NCAA Division I Administrative Committee approved the recommendation Wednesday, but the new rules will only go into effect if Division II and Division III also approve.
