"Ravenswood" is a Dungeons & Dragons sounding name for a neighborhood. Chicago based individual, but still New Orleans related. Georgia raised via UGA & SSI.

If you've got time to post, you've got time to send an email to your senators and House rep and tell them to fight loudly against this madness.

It’s impossible to overstate how much “abolish ice” is the normie position now here in chicago — just countless random moms at toddler soccer on a park district field asking me where I bought my anti-ice t-shirt. average people don’t like our neighborhoods being terrorized.

A friend ran the Chicago marathon today and said he couldn’t count the number of FUCK ICE signs along the way.

I used to think people just didn’t understand what Columbus did but now I think some are really attached to him (as opposed to other worthy italians to celebrate) because their whole thing is not only getting away with doing horrible things but forcing everyone to praise them for being horrible

Imagine coming home from Sunday brunch and springing into action to protect your neighbors.

Federal agents deployed tear gas in Albany Park as neighbors blocked an immigration arrest.

Having grown up in that culture, those conversations are just an endless game of anecdotes trumping other anecdotes. Corrupt police are individually bad but not a system issue because "there's corruption everywhere."

This morning at the Ravenswood Metra:
Chalk drawing on a sidewalk reads. "12PM OCT 18 NO KINGS"

This is one reason so many consent decrees & community policing reforms mandate police officers attend "community engagement" activities. The idea is to humanize the community in LE eyes, but often it only reinforces the "us vs the world" pathology.
panarmstrong.bsky.social
I came here to say this. The law enforcement community is very insular, especially Federal agencies. Their self imposed detachment from wider society is a significant problem.

It has been a long time since I lived in a place where this many helicopters were constantly flying overhead. It really is unnerving.

It’s been said but it bears repeating: in addition to the people being abducted, all Chicagoans are being psychologically terrorized. Seeing feds driving/walking around and videos of violent attacks in places you know and love will fuck you up. Get ready, it’s coming to all of America soon.

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

Father Larry did not come here to fuck around

Y'all I just want to say how much I've appreciated the relatively boring UGA vs Auburn games of recent years because when this one gets weird it really isn't fun for fans of either team.

(Though I know the rest of y'all think it is hilarious.)

What a fucking embarrassing thing to have to do. ICE should obviously quit their jobs, but I would quit so fast if I had to turn away a bunch of nuns trying to provide the sacraments.

Outside of the Broadview ICE facility, a state trooper tells the delegation attempting to have communion with detainees that ICE has denied their request.

Exactly. There may be some question on an apartment application form or something like that.

People without many housing options could be asked (compelled) to disclose.

But that's not a high probability.
panarmstrong.bsky.social
It does seem like data from both sources would be necessary to create a map like this.
panarmstrong.bsky.social
The building employee "wished he had" that map and building management didn't comment so I felt the need to include it as an option (even as low probability).
panarmstrong.bsky.social
I was shocked to learn CPD & the Cook County States Attorney's office routinely treat & talk about "possessing a firearm without a FOID card" as a "gun crime" instead of a licensure issue.

(I lived most of my life in the South where "licensure" issues were..uhh.. different.)
panarmstrong.bsky.social
Y'all i grew up in the land of Confederate monuments where over 100 years of American history were intentionally erased to keep Jim Crow the dominant foundation of society. Hollywood has been part of that propaganda since the beginning.
panarmstrong.bsky.social
Hell, too many Americans are primed to think that's normal from Hollywood police procedurals that can majick up gun ownership information.
panarmstrong.bsky.social
But that database only tracks *disqualified* owners. If these tenants were legal owners, they wouldn't have any data points to put in any system...except for FOID or some local building registry.
panarmstrong.bsky.social
Right? The story's lede was awful enough I almost missed this part.
panarmstrong.bsky.social
Essentially, the National Instant Background Check database at the FBI is supposed to function like that in a (very) limited capacity without any larger AI inputs, and we know the outputs are often woefully incomplete.
panarmstrong.bsky.social
That's what set off all my alarm bells when I got to that part of the reporting. A "firearms map" might sound like a normal thing, but here in the USA there's a whole subset of laws, processes, & politics involved in making one.
panarmstrong.bsky.social
PS: someone brought up a 3rd possibility where the building itself maintained a list of tenants who owned firearms.
panarmstrong.bsky.social
That would depend significantly on the inputs to what data they're searching. Court records, especially firearm owners disqualifying records, are notoriously (& often tragically) never entered into the system as such.
