Meet our CEO: Barry Stonewing Jr.

Barry Jr. just took over Owlbear Inc. after his father was tragically murdered in his cave by roving "heroic adventurers".

He likes coffee, long walks in the woods alone at night, and his pet "cat" Mittens.

Welcome Barry Jr!

I’m not sure how else Hades 2 could have ended, but I find myself constantly jarred by it in the aftermath.
What even was that ending??
Dm challenge: npc web creation!

Create a series of npcs connected to a central figure.

They can only be one-line descriptors and should state an obvious relation.

Sibling
Paramour
Enemy
Friend
Child
Parent
Rival
Killer
Quarry

Can you create an npc web in a single post?

Meet your grandfather.

🤯

What a scene! #criticalrole
Update: the party is still on this map after 3 juicy sessions and JUST triggered the flooded tunnels.

I hope they get to the ice dragon's lair at some point..
Map making is so fun because you can align every detail with the story. Shoutout to Dungeon Draft.

Welcome to Durkh'al, the ancestral dwarven tunnels.
12 POI and counting!

I'll probably keep adding cobwebs and dust to pepper in details. You can never have too many cobwebs!

Shield Guy: as a reaction, jump in front of an attack on Sword Guy. Clear a stress for Sword Guy. Spend stress to reduce damage. High Difficulty.

Any hit against Sword would be intercepted and negated, while clearing stress for them.

Then Sword generates fear and opp attacks for free.

Broken.
Absolutely insane combo my daggerheart dm threw at us:

Sword Guy: as a reaction, attack a very close creature that Shield Guy defends against. Clear a stress for Shield Guy. Generate fear on a hit.
Dm tip: trust your improv

Keep saying words and trust that you can handle the repercussions.

Reveal secrets
Make up descriptions
Invent special attacks
Create NPCs
Lay traps and betrayal

Don’t get trapped in a “must prep” mindset. Go with the natural narrative flow!

Due to budget cuts, corporate is restricting miniatures to paper cutouts and folded paper clips.
Dm tip: map hazards

Lava
Water
Spikes
Abyss
Traps
Mire
Flora

Add an element to your map and encounter that the players can use or must caution.

Bonus points if the adversary can use it to their advantage! Nothing like a water snake grappling and drowning PCs :)

Dm tip: npc opposites

Quickly flesh out an encounter by establishing two npc’s who are counter to one another.

Guard and bandit.
Paladin and cultist.
Merchant and thief.
Rebel and soldier.

Pepper these in on a map to add simple story layers and enhance narrative.

RPG tip from the archive: Give villains three evocative nicknames and a sidekick who goes around towns talking about how dangerous and awesome they are.

Actually good advice to incrementally include minions like this as PCs level up. It will make them feel badass and make combat easy to track!
#DnD advice: Need faster combat encounters? Start every fight with only 1 HP per combatant.
I’d love to read a devlog!
Corporate policy excludes excess spell slots from reimbursement policies.

It will also be adversely applied to next quarter’s budgets.
#DnD advice: Extra spell slots at the end of the day are an embarrassing waste of resources. Use them all immediately at the start of the adventure.

Passing the #ttrpg gm torch to my 7yo

“So, does your wizard guy have a hat?”

Asking the important questions (and making a map!)
Another feature to steal from #daggerheart: Environments

- Restore or drain hp/stress/hope
- Summon monsters/npcs
- Provide advantage/dis
- Increase/limit dice size
- Track clocks

Codifying the location itself as a potential boon or adversary with unique DM moves is an underlooked #ttrpg feature.
Everytime they reference OSR I read it as Old School Runescape
