Won't post much as I have no insight or expertise, but sometimes forget that when drunk with the power of a keyboard. Pronouns whatever. Writer, editor etc. of ESL materials in Prague. Interests here: Politics, climate, SFF, linguistics, i dunno

If anyone wants the source, it's "Science: Abridged Beyond the Point of Usefulness" by @zachweinersmith.bsky.social. The only textbook you need for every science course, as long as you're not expecting to actually pass.
While pretending to be a 16-year-old. That doesn't sound at all concerning.
Certainly call for Epstein's clients to face justice but don't downplay Maxwell's role. According to Guiffre she was Epstein's procurer, groomer and facilitator and also a repeat active participant in rapes, including Guiffre's first rape. There's no place for a "but".
If you see this, quote with a vampire that is not Dracula.
If you see this, quote with a robot that isn’t from “Star Wars,” “Star Trek,” “Doctor Who,” or “Transformers.”
If clothes are a social language, surely this RW Grifter aesthetic just as valid as e.g. punk, with its own sartorial vocabulary that reflects the values of the subculture, communicates in-group messages and so on ;)
Time has eaten
the works
that were in
the desert

and which
Ozymandias
intended
for glory

Those legs tho
Phwoaarrr
So vast
and so trunkless
There once was a king, Ozymand
Who bragged about all he’d command.
Trying to fill his foes with fright he
Said “Look on my works, ye mighty!”
But now it’s all trunkless legs and sand.
I heard there was a statue tall
That sneered at folk and commanded all
But you don't really care for symbols do ya
It goes like this the feet the fist
The head that fell the aim that missed
The long lost king whose name was Ozymandias
Ozymandias
Ozymandias
Ozymandias
Ozymaaaaandias
Their first year was the time to break their ill-advised rules and focus on fixing at least some things people *can* feel - I'd have gone for new housing, the courts and care but there were options. They'd have faced fury at first but need/ed results people can feel 2 years before the next election.
I for one definitely knew my dad's cousins as "First cousin once removed Doris" and so on. And didn't at all have to Google to find out what my Auntie Doris' actual relationship to me is technically called.
Of course he does. He's probably even submitted a fess but couldn't keep to the character limit
I read a reply to this question that was basically that there are plenty of Chotiner interviews where people don't come across as arseholes because not every interviewee is an arsehole. And arseholes lack self-awareness, so...
Still so proud of my old hometown's solution to the "but it's part of our history" crowd
Mightn't any "exodus" likely be among people who weren't on payroll stats in the first place, though? The "self employed" whose jobs are disguised as contract work? Changes in that population (in either direction and of any magnitude) wouldn't show in those stats? And they'd be the first to be cut.
But the thing is: ads aren't made to meet quotas or policy goals but to sell stuff. If they have diverse casting, it's because it improves perceptions of the company/product - i.e. that's what people *actually* like to see. If many people were really put off by it, it simply wouldn't be there.
It's also the sort of advice that should have been kept for a private word rather than a public post, much as his advice suggests. It's very funny.
Just don't think too much about the relationship between mom and pop there
The knuckle-draggingly stupid part is that if consumers didn't want diversity in ads, it wouldn't be there. Ad execs don't sit there wringing their hands over inclusiveness, and ads are *expensive*. If casting isn't statistically representative, that's because it's what people want/expect to see.
Omg it's true, I thought that was blood but it's tomato sauce isn't it?
I'll tell you one thing, he's not building a playhouse for the childr - actually good god he might be
I was going to suggest that "microwaved whole" belongs much further along the disintegration axis but now I'm worried about "countless nights." Do you need someone to talk to?
I still can't wrap my head around this being the new normal in the US. It's all happening so fast.
Yesterday I left 10 extra whistles on my door w/a note saying to take 1 & blow it to alert others if you spot ICE agents. 6 have been claimed already. I’m going to buy more to restock. It’s an easy, friendly way to support immigrants & to self identify as a safe space.
