If you're in need of positive and rather wholesome news, there's a high school teacher named Bryan who took a ton of freely licensed celebrity headshots at the New York Film Festival last month for Wikipedia, and I truly can't believe how drastic the upgrade is for some articles (thread)

Still had this saved in ctrl v from the last one of my saltine sisters who pulled this shit.

Yes all white people until white supremacy is no more.

Racism & white supremacy will not go away every time we gotta pat an insecure white woman who needs a cookie on the head and go "not YOU Karen"
If you would just STOP buying avocado and pastry you could afford... avocado and pastries... for a bit, til the prices go up again. 😄
Do you have a demo example?

I know I could create my own but assuming you can show a *good* one. 😄

TAFKAP-rince Andrew going from:

Awful, corrupt man given unimaginable power, wealth and titles for 'reasons'

being busted down to:

Awful, corrupt, criminal given slightly less unimaginable wealth for 'reasons'

*does* feel like a 'win' but it's a frikkin' weird one.

Yup.

I'm old enough to remember a time when politicians would 'do the right thing' and resign over the merest whiff of a scandal.

Now? Brazening it out seems to be the popular route through.

'Something else will come up and distract everyone' is a fairly reliable plan it seems.

Andrew Cock-Starkey (@optimisey.com) explains that using a .com gives you credibility and global flexibility, while a country-specific domain like .co.uk may limit reach if you expand internationally.

Absolutely *horrifying*.

Well played. 😄

I'm not sure the British Royal family are a good example of ethics or accountability. 😄

More like (very) slowly catching up with public opinion.

But yes, it does make a nice change for those in power to get knocked down a peg or three. Even if not before time.
Lucky it ends soon. You'll be singing Swing Low in a minute... 😄
I heard they can be distracted by the scent of Yorkshire Tea.

Hikers in the area are warned to carry some with them at all times and, if they sight a feral JP to toss said teabags into nearby bushes whilst they make their escape.
Ah, the obsession with "balance" drives me nuts too.

Here's a scientist talking about the planet and climate change and - just for 'balance' - here's a flat-earther talking about the lizard people.

It's nonsense (in lots of ways!).

I'm sad that the Beeb is being politicised in this way. ☹️
I know everyone slates the BBC and that, to an extent, means they're doing an OK job (if the left and right, politically, are both cross it's usually a good thing!).

But the constant push of, effectively, Reform's agenda is baffling. Is it just click-chasing? Or something deeper?
This is true.

But it's depressing. Whatever happened to 'responsible journalism'?

And what's BBC News' excuse?
There were 262 knife/sharp implement related homicides in 2024.

That's 5 per week.

Again, far (far!) too many.

So why is it that 1 or 2 specific cases get all the attention recently?

The answer is obvious when you think about it.

Migrant + Crime = too juicy to resist for the 'news agenda'.
Last year there were 49,600 offences involving a knife or sharp implement.

That's 135 *per day*.

Obviously 1 is too many but the media focus on examples perpetrated by certain groups (migrants and non-white people) is fuelling the racist fire.

Knife crime statistics England and Wales
Knife crime is a crime involving an object with a blade or sharp instrument. This briefing presents and analyses statistics on knife crime in England and Wales.

(I also need an explainer of this photo. WHY do you have a photo of JP coming out of a hatch?) 😄
I think it's because Tahoe has the Sherman Legislation (implemented in 2013) whereby every home must have a JP Hatch to show the ingress and egress of wild JPs.
Me too, though I'm another that adds my own 'hilarious' (to me) UTM tags when I'm in a silly mood (which is often). 😄
