Congrats to everyone who submitted their first ERC today!

Can we all now collectively collapse?

Yes, exactly ^^ I actually sent you bluesky message but I think it got lost behind their verification request.

Yes, check our "resource rationality", it's often heuristic decisions that drive even major choices.

I am getting increasingly interested in how individual uncertainty aversion in mental health feeds into these life choices (e.g. "what-if" thinking in anxiety).

Well, in the three countries where I have recently worked (Germany, Ireland, Sweden), annual growth of 2-5% is baked directly into the budgets.

haha yes - this is just to demonstrate the affordability, ofc one doesn't just hire postdocs (although, now I am getting some ideas XD).

Same in germany/ireland - 1 postdoc + a few RAs, maybe a PhD position.

Postdoc affordability index for ERC starting grants (based on Eurozone inflation)

While in 2014, the fixed 1.5 mil EUR budget amounted to 9.84 theoretical 3-postdoc positions, in 2024 we are at 6.67, that's 32.3% loss in purchasing power.

I will just leave it here.
