Oct 1939: New Persil ad from Persil

«PERSIL NOW EVEN BETTER»
An advertisement for a new washing powder promises whiter whites, brighter colors, and softer woolens. It showcases satisfied users and boasts about the product's oxygen action, silk safety, and lasting daintiness. It highlights three extra advantages: no mixing, extra lather, and prevention of scum. The advert compares the new powder to the old, but at the same price.

PERSIL NOW EVEN BETTER

RADIO TIMES, ISSUE DATED OCTOBER 20
AFTER 2 YEARS CAREFUL PREPARATION
NEW PERSIL IS READY. NEW PERSIL
WILL CARRY ON! FOR NOW, MORE THAN
EVER, YOU NEED ITS EXTRA HELP.
"Whites washed
even Whiter,
Colours come
Brighter, Woollies
Softer, in Easiest
Wash we ever
had!" - SAY 14,000 WOMEN
AFTER TESTING
BEFORE this new Persil came on the market
14,000 women secretly proved in advance every
claim made for it. They tested it for months-
without prejudice, too, for it was issued in a
plain nameless packet. Their verdict will be
your verdict. Persil has always given beautiful
results. But this new Persil proves that the
wonderful Persil oxygen action can
give even better results. The famous
Persil Whiteness is now whiter still,
putting all other whiteness in the shade.
What is more, your precious silks are
even safer now, their daintiness more
lasting. And the fluffy softness of the
woollens, the brightness of the colours,
will make you prouder than ever of
your wash.
ONE WOMAN TELLS ANOTHER!
The news soon travels. One woman tells another, and before long you'll
hardly find a home where the new, even better Persil isn't being used.
AND THESE 3 BIG
EXTRA ADVANTAGES
NO MIXING
easier wash
You just shake new Persil on to
the water, swish with your hand,
watch the lather foam up-and
there, so quickly, so easily, you're
all ready.
EXTRA LATHER
for fine wash
A deep foamy lather which gets
right in and in-just a few gentle
squeezes and all dirt vanishes
from your silks and woollens.
PREVENTS SCUM
easier rinsing
Even in the hardest water, with
new Persil, you get no trouble
with scum. That...

Oct 1957: Eggs ad from British Egg Marketing Board

«Take as many eggs as you like
-and beat Mr. Rising Price»
A print advertisement encourages consumers to buy eggs to offset rising food costs. It suggests eating eggs is a good way to reduce your food bills, and explains eggs can be purchased in large, standard, medium and small sizes. Eggs can also be rated as top quality and farm-fresh.

Take as many eggs as you like
-and beat Mr. Rising Price

Hens may be very stupid. Men
may be very clever. But a hen
makes a wonderful job of an egg.
An egg is the best of foods.
Eggs are meat. They contain
the same proteins as meat. (Also
Vitamins A, D and B. And iron.
And other minerals.) When you
add eggs to puddings the pudding
course has the same body-build-
ing goodness as the meat course.
You improve the whole meal.
Eggs have no waste. They are
little parcels packed with things
the body needs, and the body
uses them all up.
The best way to beat rising
prices is to cut out any luxuries
that have not got high food value.
Eggs have very high food value.
You can use them to give the
family a hundred and one little
treats without spending very
much money.
The farmers have a lion
stamped on your egg, so you
know it has been examined for
top quality and farm-freshness
before it went out to the shops.
It is also stamped 'large',
'standard', 'medium' or 'small'
according to size. This way you
know you are getting full value
for money. There is a number
on your egg too. If you have
any complaint you can quote
the number to your shop.

Oct 1882: Liquid Coffee ad from Walker's

«Walker's Liquid Coffee is the Best and Cheapest in the World»
An advertisement from the 1800s featuring a bottled, instant, liquid coffee with chicory. The text describes the coffee as making many cups from a single bottle and mentions testimonials from medical journals and analysts about its flavor and convenience. It can be used with milk or water to make a refreshing beverage.

Walker's Liquid Coffee is the Best and Cheapest in the World

Exact Size of a Is. Bottle. FAIR TRIAL WILL CONVINCE YOU THAT
WALKER'S LIQUID
COFFEE is the Best and Cheapest in the World.
THE LANCET, the leading journal of its class in the world, says, in its issue of July 19th, 1879, of this Coffee, that “it possesses in a marked degree the odour of Coffee, and furnishes a refreshing beverage when prepared in the usual manner with boiling water, sugar, and milk.”
WALKER'S LIQUID
COFFEE takes less time and less trouble to make than tea.
THE MEDICAL TIMES and GAZETTE says:-"It makes, with boiling water and milk and sugar according to taste, a much better and more agreeable beverage than one generally meets with under the name of Coffee in England. It may be safely recom-mended and deserves to become popular, for with it good Coffee can be made quickly, surely, and cheaply."
WALKER'S LIQUID
COFFEE. A Shilling Bottle makes over thirty large cups of Coffee.
DR. RIVERS WILL-SON, Ph. D., F.C.S., Edin., Analyst, 3, Adelaide Terrace, London Bridge, reports :-"I have carefully analysed a sample of Walker's Liquid Coffee, and find that it is a genuine and well-made Extract of pure Coffee, in which the aroma is satisfactorily retained. On dilution with boiling water it furnishes a beverage which is practicably undistinguishable in flavour from that made with freshly-roasted Coffee, and I have no hesitation in strongly recommending it, not only for its purity, but also for its convenience and cheapness."
A. RIVERS WILLSON, Ph. D.
WALKER'S LIQUID
COFFEE is recommenced by all who use it.
ITS ADVANTAGES
are that one cup or more to any number can be made...

Many people tell you that they're your friend
You believe them you need them
For what's around the river bend
Make sure that you're receiving the signals they send
'Cause brother you've only got two hands to lend

Maybe there's someone who makes you weep
And some nights loom up ahead when you're asleep
Some days there's things on your mind you should keep
Sometimes it's tougher to look than to leap
Chorus
(Ooh) Better watch out for the skin deep
(Ooh) Better watch out for the skin deep
(Brother watch out) Watch out for the skin deep
(Brother watch out) Watch out for the skin deep
Better watch out for the skin deep

Your emotions are frayed
And your nerves are starting to creep
Just remember the days
As long as the time that you keep
Brother you better watch out for the skin deep

Oct 1937: Pears' Soap ad from Pears

«Preparing to be a Beautiful Lady»
A vintage advertisement featuring a young child on the phone, with text highlighting the soap's role in preparing her 'to be a beautiful lady'. The text emphasizes the soap's purity and the family's long-standing trust in the brand.

Preparing to be a Beautiful Lady

"Just say 'Hello' to Daddy and then come along,”
says Mummy. "Hello, Daddy!" says Joan. “I'm
just going to have my barf. Bring me home some
sweets, won't you? I tore my frock this afternoon.
Yes, and-." And so on, until she is dragged forcibly
to the almost overflowing bath.
But once in the water, the telephone is forgotten.
There are all sorts of games to play and there is
the nightly ritual of peering through the soap so
that Mummy and the bathroom turn golden. Joan
is still fascinated by that fragrant, transparently
golden soap, although she has never known any
other.
Mummy, too, has used Pears Soap all her life and
her own mirror shows her how it has kept her skin
petal smooth and flawless. That is why she trusts
so surely to Pears, the pure soap, and clear water
for preparing Joan to be a beautiful lady.
