It was a consensus pick for my family more than once at the video store. There's some magic alchemy in there that made it the ultimate "sure, why not?" for a while

Happy Columbo’s Day
Screenshot from Columbo. He his talking to his dog, which is sitting is the drivers seat of a car. “Okay, I’m gonna put you in charge. You take care of the car. You’re a responsible dog. When I get back, if the car’s okay, I’ll give you another cookie.” “If the car’s gone,” “I’ll give you another cookie anyway” “because I love you.”

I mean it's not the *exact* one but it did take a bit of detective work to find the make and model

This reminds me of the time in the early 90s when my parents had to explain that our regular babysitter would be gone for a bit because her protest group had dressed up like Barbara Bush and bike locked themselves to something or other. That's how I learned what "posting bail" meant.

What The Hell Is Going On, a thread:

I’ve seen some thinkpieces and posts about Portland protests that fail to understand the long-term hyperspecificity of Portland culture/humor, and frame it as a sort of shitposting meme-pilled ironic thing. Which is wrong.

So I’m gonna give you my breakdown.

In retrospect we should have fled into the streets in terror like when they showed a train on film for the first time

Sorry to say we did that last week and look what happened

Sadly no, but it may have been lost on another bus

Today in war-torn Portland the bus driver announced that someone lost a bus pass and everyone got up to look for it.

The Men in Black sequels aren't the *worst* movies ever made, but there was a huge opportunity for a franchise that didn't depend on a single star. Leave TLJ alone, introduce a new agent every time, keep the ones that stick, and rotate Smith out if he's bored with the role.

so now that this special place -- where once, together, by the glow of the artificial fire, we beheld the ten thousand Alf hog posts that were all mass deleted while yet unindexed -- is changing for the worse according to most of the people who made it what it was, it seems worth asking:

You might be tempted to ask how Angela Bassett, whose character on 9-1-1 is an LAPD sergeant, came to be in space. To that I ask, who else has jurisdiction over crimes that take place in the space directly above Los Angeles?

Look, I appreciate this. TV needs more of this. Let’s have fun again. Seriously things are so bad in the industry and everywhere. Let’s all turn on stuff at night together and go “that was insane” and then surprise there are 20 more episodes and the characters don’t remember being in orbit.
9-1-1 poster with Angela Bassett in FUCKING SPACE!
