Two years ago in our report “Shifting Gears,” I called for NY State to move away from outdated highway expansion policies—and prioritize bipartisan IIJA funding to reduce congestion and emissions, repair infrastructure, and improve safety.
Shifting Gears
Executive Summary The 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) marks one of the largest infusions of federal funding into the nation’s infrastructure of the last century. This legislation wi...

After advocacy from thousands of New Yorkers, @governor.ny.gov and the state DOT tabled two major highway expansion projects—the Cross Bronx Expressway and Route 17.

Grateful for a leader who defends mass transit from bullies in D.C. who have never stepped foot onto the subway!

As I told @KatyTurNBC, Donald Trump's political retribution against @NewYorkStateAG is pure tyranny. Tish James is a fearless fighter for New Yorkers, and we have her back all the way.

1.8 million NYC residents rely on SNAP, including 560,000 children.

Donald Trump's new SNAP rules, including draconian "work documentation," are unfathomably cruel and will hurt thousands of New Yorkers and burden taxpayers.
Big changes are coming to SNAP. Thousands in NY risk losing benefits.
The Trump administration sped up the implementation of new work rules for the federal food stamp program.

Let’s be clear: we should be working to close Rikers, not turning it into a deportation outpost for ICE.
tiffanycaban.bsky.social
I’m introducing a law today to keep ICE off Rikers. We must protect New Yorkers from modern-day storm troopers.

There is no investment more responsible than paying restaurant and service industry workers a living wage.

I'll always stand with One Fair Wage to call for an end to subminimum wages so that our businesses, our working families, and our city can thrive!

Street vendors—many of whom are immigrants—create jobs and enliven NYC's food culture. Yet every day, NYPD roams the streets, targeting them.

@council.nyc.gov must pass the Street Vendor Reform Package to end criminalization of vendors and increase access to licenses and permits.

Proud to stand with @workersjusticep.bsky.social in calling for @council.nyc.gov to pass @justinbrannan.bsky.social's Int 1332, which would eliminate unjust deactivations of app-based delivery workers.

Deliveristas are hardworking essential workers who deserve secure jobs and just pay.

Truly great to hear that the state DOT scrapped proposals for its Cross Bronx Expressway "traffic diversion" that would put significant environmental and health burdens on the South Bronx.

Grateful for @governor.ny.gov's leadership and for listening to thousands of residents across the borough.

NEW: The NY State Dept. of Transportation announced that it would not build a "traffic diversion" structure — essentially a highway expansion, according to critics — when it repairs an elevated section of the Cross Bronx Expressway. buff.ly/hV6ujZf

Now is the time to meet Trump's tyranny and violent takeover of cities in the tradition of nonviolent protest.

Through court watching, through peaceful resistance, through building an inclusive democracy—we will stand up for our neighbors and our values. #HandsOffNYC

Chag Sukkot Sameach, New Yorkers!

Sukkot is a wonderful reminder of our wanderings and our shared fragility—and that the only way through is solidarity.

Ended the day at 26 Federal Plaza with the Lab Shul All Faith Atonement Rally for Justice and Peace.

We prayed for peace and held hands together in a circle of courage and compassion, committed to change.

Grateful to Rabbis for Ceasefire, @jfrejnyc.bsky.social and the other organizers of yesterday's mass mourning and collective atonement at Brooklyn Borough Hall.

Let us steady and care for one another, and persevere together. #YomKippur

Trump and Kristi Noem and Tricia McLaughlin can say what they want.

But Americans can see with our own eyes what's happening. And we're not going to stop showing up until they stop abducting our neighbors.

The violence by ICE at 26 Federal Plaza is really escalating—with innocent journalists and civilians being thrown to the ground by masked agents.

I explained to @nicollewallace.bsky.social how it's all unfolding.

Funding for infrastructure projects is not a political pawn. New Yorkers reject this asinine, authoritarian move.

ICE is terrorizing our communities with uncontrolled excessively violent behavior.

Last week, Comptroller Lander and I demanded DOJ criminally investigate an ICE agent who assaulted a mother in front of her two children.

This type of behavior isn’t “law enforcement.” It must be held to account.
