HISTORY MADE TODAY! The global majority has joined the #NuclearBan Treaty!

Today Kyrgyzstan🇰🇬 signed and Ghana🇬🇭 ratified the UN Treaty banning nuclear weapons, bringing us to bringing the total to 99 out of 197 eligible states.🎉
2/ And while NATO may frame that as “ensuring that NATO’s nuclear deterrent remains safe, secure and effective,” let’s not forget what nuclear weapons actually do: wipe out entire cities and mass murder civilians. #NuclearBan
🧵1/ You can’t prepare to “responsibly” use a weapon that would make humanitarian response impossible.

The ICRC and UN say no one can handle the consequences of a nuclear war, yet NATO #SteadfastNoon countries are training to cause one.

🧵1/ Nuclear weapons are the most destructive, inhumane and indiscriminate weapons ever created. Both in the scale of the devastation they cause, and in their uniquely persistent, spreading, genetically damaging radioactive fallout, they are unlike any other. #NuclearBan

1/ This is what leadership looks like👏

Thank you for being on the right side of history Kyrgyzstaand Ghana! Today we celebrate the countries stepping up for humanity: the leaders who have signed, ratified, or acceded to the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. #NuclearBan
3/ Most of the world now reject the dangerous myth of “nuclear deterrence” and are demanding real progress on disarmament and by making nuclear weapons illegal under international law, the treaty places them alongside chemical and biological weapons as unacceptable. #NuclearBan
2/ The global majority joining the #NuclearBan Treaty is more than a number. It’s a turning point, why? Because the #NuclearBan Treaty has broken the dominance of nuclear-armed states over the debate, exposing them as a small minority clinging to their weapons of mass destruction
