On October 18, 1929, women in Canada were finally recognized as "persons" under law.

On #PersonsDay, we celebrate the courage of all those who fought for equality — and keep fighting for it today.

Nova Scotians are spending $4,400 more each year on rent since the Houston government was elected.

We have a plan for real rent control that would tie a rent cap to the unit, not the tenant, and to create an enforcement unit for residential tenancy so renters can get help when they’re being abused.
On Infant and Pregnancy Loss Awareness Day, we are thinking of all the families who are missing and remembering their babies. This grief is overwhelming, and even though many are touched by pregnancy and infant loss, people often feel very alone. Today is a day to share and honour their stories.
Half of Atlantic Canadians are just $200 away from not being able to pay their bills.

Tim Houston’s response? Kick 46,000 people off the heating rebate program and cut $200 from the ones who remain.

Now is not the time to slash programs that help Nova Scotians keep the heat on.
Happy Thanksgiving, Nova Scotia! Today we give thanks to the neighbours, volunteers, front-line workers, and families who make our communities the wonderful places they are. 🧡

However you're celebrating, we hope your day is filled with warmth, gratitude, and good food.
Happy National Coming Out Day! 2SLGBTQIA+ people have every right to be out and proud, and the NSNDP stand with you, today and every day.
Today, on Global Mental Health Day, let's join together to end stigma & improve access to care.

For too many Nova Scotians, the wait for mental health care is months long, leaving families & communities to fill those gaps. Let's work for a better future where help is there when you need it.
Today we celebrate all the hardworking teachers across our province! They inspire, challenge, and shape the future of our province one student at a time.

Happy World Teachers’ Day!
Today New Democrats mark the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People. We mourn those who have been lost and reaffirm our commitment to meaningful action to prevent further violence and injustice.

Our top priority is making life better for Nova Scotians. We won't vote on a bill that pits renters against survivors of gender-based violence, and licensing for bouncers against Indigenous rights. The Houston government is playing politics with people’s safety and their rights.

Enough is enough.
Today, we walked out of the legislature and refused to vote on Houston's Omnibus Bill.
Tim Houston's decision to slash the heating assistance rebate program is having real negative effects on families across this province. This government needs to stand up for Nova Scotians facing higher power costs and less help.

Tim Houston cutting the Home Heating Rebate Program means more Nova Scotians will be forced to choose between heat, food, and rent. That’s not right — and we’re fighting back.

Last week NSNDP Leader Claudia Chender introduced the Reproductive Healthcare Act which would ensure all Nova Scotians can access birth control for free.

This is a practical & compassionate action that would save Nova Scotians hundreds of dollars a year.

Today at sunset, Jewish communities in Nova Scotia, Canada, and around the world will observe Yom Kippur. This is a time for reflection, renewal, and forgiveness.

To everyone marking the Day of Atonement, we wish you an easy fast and a meaningful day.
But Tim Houston is blocking every single one. Instead of helping Nova Scotians, he's making it harder to get by. It's now more expensive to live in Halifax than Toronto!

Tim Houston is making it harder for families to get by
Since the Houston government got elected, families are spending $400 more a year on power—and another rate hike from Nova Scotia Power will drive your bill up even more. Not only is the Houston…

We're putting forward practical solutions like a 10% rebate off your power bill, free brith control, and closing the fixed-term lease loophole so renters don't have to find more expensive housing every year.
We're pushing for an immediate 10% rebate off your monthly power bills. The NSNDP did it before and Tim Houston could do it right now and give people a break this winter.

Last week he slashed the heating rebate that families and seniors rely on to keep the heat on in the winter. 46,000 Nova Scotians were kicked off the program, and the rebate has been cut by hundreds of dollars.
Since Tim Houston was elected, Nova Scotians' power bills have gone up by $400. But instead of helping you afford a life in our province, he's making it harder.
October 1st is Treaty Day and marks the beginning of Mi’kmaq History Month. New Democrats remain committed to upholding the rights and responsibilities created by the Peace and Friendship Treaties.

We are all Treaty People.
Every Child Matters. Today we honour the children who never came home, the survivors who carry the trauma of residential schools, and the urgent work of true reconciliation still not complete.
