Will the existing databases have time, money & expertise to do it? Maybe. But everything eventually is a tradeoff.

At the end of the day, if there will be a need to store, process & query a billion vector points for regular queries, there will always be serious competition to do it in less memory, space & time, and make it operationally easy. That's really what drives a leader in a space.

If you simplify it enough, timeseries is just a set of rows ordered by time. It can be done in any database, but TS databases exist as a category.

You can have isolated postgres databases each managed separately & a willingness to accept some downtime, and perhaps distributed SQL would not be a category, but CockroachDB exists.

JSON can be stored in most relational databases today, but MongoDB still exists.

You can run analytics on Postgres, but Snowflake still makes a fortune.

You're likely a proponent of "Just Use Postgres!" if you are thinking on those lines.

Most databases today would not exist as standalone categories if there were no special circumstances involved. Think about it.
