I scrolled its feed and you're right, it does seem very GPT-2 era. IIRC the grift is to build the account's followers and then sell it to someone who uses it for marketing, in this case I suppose to run paid ads for self-pub / small press SFF books.

Yes, the Columbus heroism is a post Civil-War thing. IIRC it crashed into reality during planning for big celebrations of the 500th anniversary in 1992, which kind of fizzled amid negative press. But in Chicago, disparaging CC has long been associated with disparaging Italian-Americans. It's messy.
