While the mainstream discussions are depressingly about *how* best to remove and stop immigrants, it’s a revolutionary act nowadays to say that immigration is actually a positive thing and an essential component of a thriving country, so please join me in doing so!

I took an IELTS test decades ago and got a top score but my kids’ GCSE English certainly seemed harder to me.

Also saying that -at least some- migrants will have a much better level of English than the majority of British-born speakers is not the racist-pacifying message they think it is!

Under the Tories they used a test called IELTS. So as far as I can tell there's nothing that different going on here. It's just a combination of very bad messaging and a hunger to please the press/GB News

New study from Melbourne finds reducing residential speed limits from 50km/h to 30 km/h on local roads would protect cyclists from danger, make riding less stressful and get more people cycling while not causing traffic delays for cars.
Switching 50km/h speed limits to 30km/h would protect cyclists while barely affecting commutes, research finds
One expert says a cyclist hit by a car travelling 50km/h has about a one-in-ten chance of surviving, while at 30km/h it was a nine-in-ten chance

Just giving my rational mind a solid deadline helps me to properly put the issue aside & stop rumenating over it. When the deadline comes, I have options. I can move it further or I may feel calmer about tackling the issue while giving myself future deadlines about the other stuff. So one at a time.

One of my top coping mechanisms with the anxiety of overthinking is simply saying to myself "I don't need to think about this right now, I'll think about this tomorrow..or on Friday.. or next week" etc. It's no rocket science but works better (for me) than all strategies in all the self-help books!

Even if we feel helpless against the evil we see in this world, we must object to it while we can. Even if we think this is not our responsibility to the people inflicted by it, it’s our responsibility to our own humanity. Even if we feel it won’t change a thing, it’s enough that it will change us.

Pleased @trusselluk.bsky.social is joining our friends across so many housing and poverty orgs to call on UK government to unfreeze local housing allowance. When it was last frozen we saw how it drove up homelessness, hunger and hardship. UK gov must not repeat such a negative spiral.

We’re proud to have joined with over 40 organisations including campaigners for tenants, homelessness and debt advice charities, landlord organisations and others in calling on the UK government to unfreeze local housing allowance at the upcoming budget.

Do you know who makes a dictatorship? It’s not the racists. It’s not the criminals. It’s not even the idiots.

It’s the sycophants.

Reading Miriam Margolyes’s book “Oh Miriam” and struck by how much I identify with her analysis of her maternal & paternal grandmothers. I mean I couldn’t have had a more different background than her yet her writing is somehow so personal to me. She is a true national treasure. I love her!

Today in London I was impressed by the diversity I saw at the Palestine solidarity march. People from all over with different backgrounds, ethnicities & ages. All united by their refusal to silence their humanity in the face of injustice.
A powerful display of hope.
This is the real England 🤍

Just respecting Zack more as his repeated responses about collaboration and openness have been superb.

The competition vibes are extremely off-putting and frankly immature at the current times.

In every possible way Labour's changes to immigration rules are profoundly stupid and damaging.
Not only will they ruin lives of migrants, they will cripple the economy, cost jobs, undermine crucial infrastructure etc etc. Everyone suffers with anti-immigration policies.
