I assumed that there were plenty of others already talking about this stuff with arguably more specific expertise! I wonder if there's anything on the History Hit channel?

OOOH I do need new sources to give the students for this one and Kempe is a great / horrifying idea!

Oh it's an in-person taught session for one of my modules at the university. In-house only I'm afraid!

Ok, where are we at with research on medieval midwives? Session next week on women's bodies, medicine, childbirth and whatnot.

Turns out that my teaching materials are actually mostly fine and don't need nearly as much 'beefing up' as I thought; turns out I was just too deep in burnout last year to use them well 🤷‍♀️

I struggled earlier today too

In a room with three whiteboards, my third years I found one covered in coding terms, one with social care terms, and one blank. Right, I said, HISTORY WORDS, let's go. And oh, we went.

You know in the Bridget Jones film where she gets the TV job and then says into her fridge 'This is Bridget Jones, searching for tuna'

sometimes I catch myself saying 'this is me, searching for dopamine' in exactly that tone

It's just always *something* isn't it?! I've done my back in so I'm adjusting everything around that and it's driving me crazy.

I see you. I am having similar weeks!

I don't *love* Six's interpretation of Katherine Howard but I love the overall vibe. And obviously for me it had to be Howard for research reasons

I bought a very cool thing today
Embroidery kit showing Katherine Howard from Six

So many questions. Who do you think was the best of Rory's boyfriends? What do you think was wrong with Huntzberger? I must know.

One of those days where a lot of time is spent waiting for pain to subside in order to function and get anything done. Having a uterus is not all that.

It is disgustingly humid, my hair will be large and damp all day at this rate

It seems one is either a squarey sharp edge clean lines person or a roundy pleasing to hold soft edges person and I am very much the latter

Mostly I'm acutely aware that this stuff doesn't matter, so although I have to pick *something* I refuse to agonise. Taps, though. Taps are tactile and apparently that changes everything

Choosing bathroom fixtures and fittings and horrified to discover I have opinions about taps

Ooh this looks super useful. Anyone got PDF access?!
Interesting comparative paper for those working on medieval queenship: Paula Sabloff: "The Political Agency of Royal Women: A Comparative Analysis of Eight Premodern States According to Societal Rules and Roles"
link.springer.com/article/10.1.... Suggests a lot of structural similarities.
The Political Agency of Royal Women: A Comparative Analysis of Eight Premodern States According to Societal Rules and Roles - Journal of Archaeological Research
Comparative analysis of women rulers and main wives of kings in eight premodern states around the globe reveals similar patterns of political agency, or the opportunity and ability to take political action. Queen rulers, regents, and main wives substituting for their husbands in their absence made policy, but they had somewhat less political agency than male rulers. Main wives’ political agency took the forms of influencing policy and people’s behavior (sometimes through their role as patron to others), interceding between their kin and their husbands, advocating for one party or the other, spying, and conspiring. Therefore, women’s political agency ought to be part of any political study. This study builds on the anthropological/archaeological study of agency by drawing attention to royal women’s political agency and showing how the analysis of structural rules and the roles of kings, queen rulers, and main wives illuminates the societal structure in which agency is embedded. By analyzing premodern societies this way, we learn that there is remarkable similarity of agency behaviors among royal women in the eight sample societies, even though the societies emerged independently of one another.
