This is the Project Esther playbook: targeting a liberal Jewish philanthropist and left wing Jewish groups. It’s ostensibly to fight antisemitism. In reality, it’s authoritarian overreach and harmful to our democracy and the Jews in it.

We will not remain silent when government power is weaponized against civil society organizations. Fighting antisemitism, protecting democracy, and defending civil society are intertwined tasks—the Trump Administration’s assault on organizations monitoring extremism threatens all three.

When the government labels Jewish watchdog groups as a threat, it’s not an attack on just one organization. This comes alongside allegations by Elon Musk that the ADL “hates Christians,” and calls from right-wing extremists to designate the Southern Poverty Law Center as a terrorist organization.
