I can't believe there's a high school in Toronto still named after Earl Haig. Does not reflect well on the history departments there for the last century.

Wouldn't read too much into typos on any shallow-thinking micro-blogging medium. What is real is the scandal that half the bars in Toronto misspell Caesar on their sandwich boards.

The sustained increase in youth suspects implicated in homicides in Toronto over the past few years is a legit concern - but the fact the Youth Criminal Justice Act was passed 20 years ago suggests it has nothing to do with it. I'd put economics and the pandemic higher on the suspect list.

Youth suspects implicated in homicides in Toronto is not up year-over-year in a statistically significant way - roughly the same number so far in 24 as 25. They're up as a proportion year-over-year because Toronto homicides overall are tracking a three-decade low.

This is a bad Blue Jays game but the guy next to me is reading a good Toronto book between innings.

Last month, something unusual happened in TV - none of the main channels got a million viewers at 9pm. The bigger problem was it happened a 2nd & 3rd time soon after.

Another unwelcome landmark for linear TV & our shrinking shared TV experience.

Does it matter?

UK broadcasters used to rely on big audiences at 9pm, but as viewing habits change, figures are falling below the 1m mark

Is it the turkey that’s making the Blue Jays sleepy (or just making me sleepy)? Maybe this is why Americans have their Thanksgiving in November.

Ate Joe Carter’s fave as Thanksgiving dessert (Wanda’s Pie in the Sky coconut cream pie) to summon the baseball gods.

If you think you know why US newspapers died, this feature documentary now streaming for free on PBS might surprise you. It wasn't the Internet. Newspapers were specifically targeted by vulture capitalists.

I composed the score for the film, which features electric cello & Crowfoot guitars.

Had a great time watching the Jays win at the Dodgers stadium with the family a couple summers ago. My six-year-old declared he was a Dodgers fan that day to troll us - and still wears the plastic Dodgers batting helmet he got cotton candy in.

Love this battle royale of Canadian all-star first basemen that’s been set up with the Mariners win!

First, Vladdy vs Josh Naylor, then (according to my vision board) Vladdy vs Freddie Freeman in the World Series.

A lot of people outside Canada want to watch Heated Rivalry, which is awesome, but the producers can’t just, like, put it in other countries. Media outlets in other countries need to pick up the show, so the thing to do is tell your favourite streamer to get the show!❤️

You're not doing anything positive for the CBC and certainly not acting as a responsible spokesperson for the principles of public broadcasting when you share partisan AI slop like this. With friends like these...

Pierre Poilievre says he’ll “talk to Trump” for Canada — even though no one asked him to.
He shares Trump’s politics, not Canada’s values.
The majority voted against him representing us.
We are not the 51st state.

Can't say I'm thrilled to see a Trump-aligned foreign power taking up a forward military position near the US-Canadian border.

There's a good 30-45 seconds between what you hear on the radio and see on TV. I ran in from the barbecue after Vladdy's grand slam Sunday to the living room where everyone else was watching and had to try to keep a straight face through a few pitches.
