This week, I followed a scared little horse, a legendary city, and the first detective story into a rabbit hole of randomness and meaning. Is chance just what we choose to notice?

That even sunshine burns if you get too much.

As Anaïs Nin famously wrote, “We don’t see the world as it is, we see it as we are.” This applies to everything.

Presidencies are stories. Wars are stories. Revolutions are too. What you perceive of the outside world is filtered through your own narrative.

What about changing it?
Your inner world is a stage with a cast of characters: monsters, friends, foes, mentors.

Every "dragon" was once a protector. The voice of self-doubt tried to save you from rejection. Recognize them, listen to their stories, and begin to dialogue.
Forget the idea that your past defines your permanent identity. Your past is a collection of facts. Your relationship to those facts, and the story you tell yourself about them, is fluid. You can change the meaning. Move from victim to author without dismissing what you’ve been through.
