'In Fermanagh, the almost total disappearance of greys and re-emergence of red squirrels is being largely put down to pine martens.' This is a great story.

Mamdani talking lucidly and passionately about trans rights and history in a video that should frankly shame every politician who has hemmed and hawed and triangulated and said, "Well, but sports..." It's not that hard to tell the truth and stand for what's right. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEvV...

To the Musée national Picasso-Paris today. This photograph shows the Pavilion of the Spanish Republic at the 1937 Paris International Exposition, as the Civil War was raging in Spain itself - and the first public exhibition of 'Guernica', here at centre.

I think it's that the smaller reds evolved alongside pine martens, so are adept at avoiding them. The larger greys were introduced, and so are much less adept.

1. Shout out to @neilhegarty.bsky.social for the kindness of sending me a copy of his debut novel. I do enjoy getting a package from back home. The hospital in the foreground is where my father, a general surgeon trained at Queen's in Belfast, practiced for his career.
