Hi, friends! This is to let you know that I switched from my previous handle (nsj dot bsky dot social) to my domain, @natejohnson.org (which is just a redirect to my LinkedIn profile for now.) Same ol' me, though. Cat picture because why not, the world needs more cat pics.

Correction - I see the ground stop in the full ACT plan.

That said, it doesn't necessarily prevent things from happening at AUS - just means they would be holding inbound flights at origins (likely so they wouldn't arrive until additional staffing is available.)

The current FAA status page doesn't show anything active for AUS right now. nasstatus.faa.gov

In any event, a "ground stop for XYZ" means that planes destined for XYZ are held on the ground at their airports of origin, not that activity at XYZ airport necessarily stops.

About another 2-3 weeks and yeah, 🍂🍁👀
By Texas standards, sure. Unless you're going E/W here in NC, that's two states' worth. ;)
It's a long drive to Clemson.
Gameday suggestion: When Campbell comes to town, instead of playing Rudyard Kipling's "Law of the Wolf" hype video, NC State should play Rudyard Kipling's "How the Camel Got His Hump".

Just a reminder that NWS is considered essential during a government shutdown. Meteorologists will still go to work, forecasts will still be made, watches and warnings will be issued, data will flow. We won’t be paid until the shutdown ends, but we’ll still protect life and property as always.
Fascinating bit of insight into how to interpret model ensembles of the disturbance that could affect NC/SC as a tropical storm hurricane early next week. Thanks @burgwx.bsky.social!
IMPORTANT NOTE 🚨

When looking at ensemble means, beware of the "survivors bias". For example, the GEFS *mean* misses the coast... but most GEFS members make landfall!

This has to do with the storm timing. Consider how some members move the storm faster than others... (cont.)
Hey @xkcd.com - I think you might have inspired this.
Almost half of North Carolina has seen their worst ever tropical event within the past decade, including storms such as Florence and Helene.

Does this match your local perception? What do you remember about these storms?

A high of 95 (!!) today, growing indication of a sloppy/wet weekend, and the chance for tropical shenanigans next week? Welcome to September in North Carolina.
This won’t be it, but what’s the backup plan if you can’t “go” for a Canes game?
“horror rectangle”

I’m stealing that
I for one welcome our new robot overlords.

I switched all that off when Apple dropped their sports scores app. Haven’t looked back.
