What’s safe for Jews was a matter of dispute. Bocarsly said CTA leadership’s opposition to every version of the bill shows that they “have little interest in supporting a bill that would protect Jewish students.”

Goldberg, the Jewish CTA prez, called that accusation “a lot of chutzpah, frankly."

Emotional fights erupted over a controversial effort this year to counter antisemitism in schools by restricting what teachers teach in classrooms, exposing a political quagmire for California Dems who needed to balance the needs of Jewish communities against the fury of a growing pro-Palestine base
Censorship or protection? Inside California’s ‘hardest’ fight of the year over antisemitism
In the fight over preventing antisemitism in schools, no one disputes the need to protect Jewish students. Lawmakers and critics diverged sharply on how to do it.

"More than three dozen federal judges have told The New York Times that the Supreme Court’s flurry of brief, opaque emergency orders in cases related to the Trump administration have left them confused about how to proceed in those matters and are hurting the judiciary’s image with the public."

Has anyone done the story pointing out that Trump DOJ is asking federal judges for 10-day or 21-day extensions to file key documents because most of the lawyers in DOJ are furloughed?

If yes, send me the piece(s)! If not, may you please? Why won't I do it? I dunno, things are hard.

Judge Nelson: "Whether there's a ton of protests, or low protests, they can still have an impact on his ability to execute the laws" -- he seems to be arguing that the president can use internal reasoning to determine if U.S. laws are being hamstrung and that the National Guard is warranted.

Judge Graber asks Oregon attorney to define rebellion. Her answer:

an organized or "armed resistance to an established government" or "attempt to change the government or the leader," often w violence.

Judge Nelson called that def. narrow and doesn't match other times National Guard was deployed.

Trump DOJ says that if the 9th Circuit judges block last Saturday's TRO halting Trump's federalization of the Oregon National Guard, then the Sunday TRO blocking ANY state's (including California) National Guard to Oregon can no longer stand, since the 2nd TRO is based on the 1st TRO.

TIL that the Jewish tradition of not eating pork was so well known in the first century CE that it was the source rampant jokes, satire and mockery. Also, there's - get this - archeological evidence of animal bone and Jewish areas had virtually none of it, while non Judean areas had lots of it. 1/2

NEW: Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals issues an administrative STAY on the first of the Oregon National Guard TROs.

Doing this "will maintain the federalization of Oregon National
Guard members, because that order prohibits implementation of the Memorandum."

Hearing on this first TRO is tomorrow.

So glad PACER caps the price per document at $3, otherwise this $15 charge would be $232.8. (It’s 10 cents a page for the first 30 pages.)

Side note: When you pay for journalism, you not only pay for a reporter's time to learn about complicated things, but you also support costs like these.
