I'm not familiar with substack. So forgive the naive question, but is there any way to validate a page/person on that site, or is it just a matter of whoever hangs out a shingle first?

1) I hope the guy gets the support and treatment he needs.

2) Training data?!?!?! For that?!

3) WTH is with an IT setup that a person can accidentally upload even a single file to a government system?

4) "[D]id not think it was very wrong." That ain't de minimis use.

5) Traing data?!?!?!

SCOOP: The State Department's new reorganization plan includes the opening of an "Office for Remigration," a term popularized by far right extremists and neo-Nazis in Europe. The office will coordinate directly with DHS "to advance the President’s immigration agenda."

My report:
State Department set to launch ‘Office of Remigration’
The concept of remigration has explicitly neo-Nazi roots and has been popularized in Europe.

"...and actually beyond." 😲

You've got me (even more) intrigued. I'v never had occasion to deal with 4-d shapes in math class, but I suppose it could have applications in, say, physics? I'm now pondering what it would mean to have a right angle in 4-d space.

It's been a while since the constitutional law class I had in undergrad (not a lawyer). What sort of rights or agency do children have in the context of legal precedent, or is it all subsumed by the parent/guardian?

I forget if it was yours or someone else's, but I still remember the post (back on Twitter?) with an image of a green plume talking about aerosols generated by flushing a toilet. So, yeah, definitely still mask in restrooms (and elsewhere). Even at home, I make sure the exhaust fan runs for a while.

Huh. I understand that, in an international context, targeting medical personnel could be considered a war crime. So... *that's* interesting.

To be clear, this isn't an incitement to violence. However, I *do* think it's helpful to know just how much power people have when it comes to opposing the regime's brownshirts and protesting/pushing back against things like trafficking minors, targeting journalists, and violating our civil rights.

That may be why they're doing MDRs, forcing into service people from other DHS missions like CISA and FEMA. It's also likely why they're offering large signing bonuses for people who want to be thugs. They don't have the people, and they know it.
DHS employees face mandatory reassignments
Dozens of DHS staff have received management-directed reassignments in recent weeks, with some moves hundreds of miles from employees' current work stations.

A bit tangential (forgive me), but I kept meaning to share this. Per page 41 of the staffing plan ahead of the shutdown, there are only about 21,000 people working for ICE. For comparison, a quick search suggests 3-6 million people took part in June's "No Kings" protests.
Lapse in Funding for DHS | Homeland Security
The Department’s contingency plan outlines procedures for an orderly shutdown of non-exempt functions during a lapse in funding or appropriations.

Some asshole sailor refuses to admit he's lost over 500 years ago, and for that, we get reduced bus service today. Fucking hell.

As I mentioned to someone last week, it's always good to stay in practice with knowing how to block people. I took a look at the account and opted to report it for harassment. Agreed, pathetic.

very little of this is hard to understand if you let go of your priors with regard to what an American administration can do, and, instead, accept the reality that the Republic has fallen to Trump, an authoritarian, and his MAGA personality cult.

I was thinking about the fact that I'd not heard anything about the polo shirt nazis in a while, and I realized they just became state-sponsored domestic terrorists.

At one point, I heard one of them mention 18 USC 111, but that's very tenuous. I'm not a lawyer, but when I read "interference," I think like physically blocking or getting in the way, not asking someone theor name. As always, this is bullshit.

Extremely bad news if true (and unlikely this reporter would run with it if not). The MMWR has been the earliest warning bell for outbreaks since it announced the first US cases, in 1981, of what was later identified as AIDS.

This will be a grievous shock to what remains of US public health.
