Then some rare good news from Thailand! This week 3 activists were acquitted of royal defamation, sedition, and violation of the Computer Crimes Act.
While shouldn't be seen as a change in direction or policy, it is heartening to see.

Weaving a Constellation of Solidarity: Art/Activism in Response to Censorship at the BACC Exhibition
In August 2025, following pressure from the Chinese Embassy, the exhibition titled “Constellation of
Complicity: Visualising the Global Machine of Authoritarian Solidarity” was censored through the removal
and redaction of artworks.
On 12 Oct, a group of visitors from Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, and Thailand, collectively initiated an
art/activism action at multiple urinal and toilet stalls located next to the censored exhibitions, to voice out
their disent.
The intervention features a sticker with the redacted and bolded text 'XJP' in black, accompanied by an
exhibition label sticker placed below. Titled “The ███ Artist, 2025”, the label explains: “An uninvited artist
from Beijing participated/intervened in the exhibition by ███. A group of unsettled visitors re-created the
exhibition to express their dissent.” This appears in Thai, Cantonese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional
Chinese.
Below is the visitors’ statement on the idea behind the art/activism initiative. More photos and interviews with

Statement on the Idea Behind the Art/Activism
This August, following pressure from the Chinese Embassy, the exhibition titled “Constellation of Complicity:
Visualising the Global Machine of Authoritarian Solidarity” was censored through the removal and redaction
of artworks.
Through collusion with Thai officials and interference in the artworks, Chinese authorities have ironically
revealed their presence in the very conversation the artists initiated—one that explores how authoritarian
regimes collaborate in repression.
In response to this censorship, we—a group of visitors who have experienced censorship by Chinese
authorities in different places—initiated this art/activism action to voice our dissent. …

Southeast Asia Mini Book and Craft Fair
October 18 @ 11:00 am - October 19 @ 7:00 pm
Once a month, SEA Junction holds a mini book and craft fair focusing on Southeast Asia.

For the books, three kinds of books are available:

New books given in consignment from recognized publishers with an interest in the countries of Southeast Asia including Silkworm Book and River Book from Thailand, ISEAS from Singapore and Yayasan Pustaka Obor from Indonesia. As a special highlight this month, there’s a restocking of books from Thai publishers.
New and used books that are double to those of SEA Junction’s Library. They include books in Thai, English and Indonesian on various issues related to Southeast Asia and the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS), including a collection of books in other languages such as in French and in Italian.
Few literature and development-related works from outside the region that have been donated to SEA Junction for the purpose of the fair.
There are also different types of crafts from Southeast Asian countries to enjoy and appreciate, for example:

Fresh restock of our inventories from Indonesia, Myanmar and more;
Handmade bags and postcards from Thailand; and
Puppets made from recycle papers, batik bags and shadow puppets from Indonesia
All profit from the books in consignment as well as from the donated books and crafts will contribute to SEA Junction’s functioning and activities.
