Early scientist gets the samples. Many long weeks looking at benthic fluxes for #OAE . Well done @nadlehmann.bsky.social and rest of team! #kunanyi in #lutruwita #tasmania
The OAE field team, @bachlennart.bsky.social, @nadlehmann.bsky.social and @damonbritton.bsky.social had a chat with Fionna Scott from @cenmag.bsky.social . Check out mineral alkalinity from down under! Diving for carbonate chemistry science is so cool 🀿πŸ§ͺ

My first OAE experiment looked into how alkaline sources, olivine and slag, affected a juvenile kelp. A lot more olivine than slag was needed to increase the same amount of alkalinity. Olivine also made the water more turbid. Early results indicate growth was not affected by minerals.
