"I Noticed That You Mentioned Silent Films So I Wanted to Come Over and Explain a Film I am Sure You Have Never Seen Called METROPOLIS" by Berthold Woltze

Nobody ever invents anything through trial and error. They just flail around like infomercial actors, stepping on rakes until one yields innovation.

It’s bad with early film but an absolute plague in culinary history. Food historians, all the best to you

It’s not just in film history but I get so tired of the “nobody meant to invent anything“ just so stories.

You know, “Méliès accidentally turned off his camera and behold! It looked like something appeared!”

As if the early film pioneers didn’t come from a background of photography and illusion

I was baffled by it but then I looked into it and an “expert” claimed that people who don’t like it are “denying their own pleasure” and it went straight into my Stop Pulling Me Into Your Kink pile.

Once we get out of this influencer era, I never want to see another jump cut or nail tap as long as I live and ASMR can jump in the sea.

Pitch

Big budget space opera in which every character is aggressively Welsh. No explanation given.

And I have never, not once, used my birth name in a public digital space.

Today's review covers CUTEY PLAYS DETECTIVE (1913), an entry in Vitagraph's Cutey short comedy series. In this episode, Cutey disguises himself as a maid to sneak into his lover's house and ends up preventing a robbery.

They just cannot let go. It is fascinating
moviessilently.bsky.social
It is significant that they need a Big Man and not just accomplished Italians and Italian Americans throughout history (or a big martyr, as we see with “Salieri murdered Mozart“ when the shoe was on the other foot)

And that’s why Perry Como is better (in addition to zero genocide attributed to him)

Yes, walk it back walk it back, all the way to Rudolph Valentino

I was particularly amused by the Italian Americans claiming they NEED Columbus for their little ethnic pride feefees.

1. No.

2. You have Ronnie Dio, why are you complaining? What the hell is wrong with you?

I am in the DW GRIFFITH IS THE FATHER OF FILM (he wasn’t, he just lied and claimed he invented stuff) YOU NEED TO LOOK AT CONTEXT (the context was he was racist and also a sex pest) NOBODY WAS OFFENDED BACK IN THE DAY (there were literal protests, kevin) everyday, so I am ready for Columbus slander

(And since Bluesky’s CEO has decided to become a lolcow, I will clarify that businesses, business leadership and politicians should keep their replies open because then it is a consumer-citizen matter. But, come on, the account posting cats on skateboards is exempt, surely, we do get that right?)

Hasn’t happened to me in the past few days but just saw it happen to another user and hoo boy.

As I keep saying, any complaint about limited replies is an accidental argument for limited replies.

Yep, they are so out of touch with normal interactions, it’s bizarre
moviessilently.bsky.social
And the whole “you said something publicly” argument is particularly stupid. Print newspapers didn’t print every letter. Radio shows don’t take every caller.

Do these people burst into conversations they overhear at McDonalds? (Kind of suspect they do)

I changed my reply settings because once posts hit the Discover tab, replies get squirrelly. I actually prefer open replies but they didn’t work for me once Bluesky grew. I am not a business, I hold no political power, I just want to be a silly goose.

It’s not that deep, as the kids say

I love it when people treat the account of Some Chick Online like it’s one belonging to a politician or business helpline

I blame social media for tossing us all in a blender together but let me explain
