Director of Strategic Research, NYSNA. Katie's husband. Josie and Charlie's dad. I like to bike places and wish there were fewer cars. I hope one day health care will not be a commodity. Content is my personal view and no one else's.

I don't think Nancy Pelosi understands how cops work.
Where will Trump voters from Long Island buy their knockoffs now?
ICE just escalated NYC enforcement in the most visible possible way: sweeping in and arresting immigrant vendors on Canal Street, where tourists have forever flocked to buy knockoff designer handbags.
Military-Style Sweep Hits NYC as Masked Federal Agents Arrest Canal Street Vendors
Spontaneous protests were met with an armored military vehicle and assault rifles in a crackdown that escalated the Trump administration’s focus on NYC.

I like it when journalists take a stand based on their beliefs instead of pretending to be objective, but her reporting just absolutely came from a “Brooklyn concerned mom” place. I’m not saying reform wasn’t needed in Calkins case, but blowing it up surely wasn’t the solution.
I can’t think of a journalist who has low key done more destruction to literacy curricula than @nytimes.com @danagoldstein.bsky.social. There were legitimate criticisms of Lucy Calkins to be made, but what she’s left in her wake appears to be chaotic and inconsistent leading to kids falling behind.
A lot of people on instagram and tiktok are filling this void and I really enjoy watching and learning from it. Some jump the shark when they monetize to a certain level and bust out the budget busting ingredients, but for the most part it's really nice watching people cook in their kitchens.
It makes sense, if your goal as Instacart is to maximize profits in the most predatory way possible. We stopped using them as soon as we could when we noticed these markups a couple years ago. Great piece! Nice work.
Just filled it out. I’ve been cycling to NFF for almost ten years now. It’s the best way to get in and out, and both my kids have ridden in on the back of my bike as toddlers. The dedicated car free lane is a great thing they’ve added over the last couple years.
Most Medicaid recipients are seniors and children. Not some theoretical basement dwelling incel that probably voted for Ashely Hinson anyway.
I live in Mike Lawler's district and I had to hear him say something very similar about this basement dweller on Medicaid.

Most people on Medicaid are seniors and children. That is who Ashley Hinson is punishing. Not some incel idiot who probably voted GOP anyway.
Hinson on Medicaid benefits: "They shouldn't be going to a 29-year-old guy who's living in his mom's basement choosing not to work."
Gretchen is a friend from college and one of the most brilliant people I've ever met!
Private funding is a band-aid but a terrible long-term solution, just like why we shouldn't rely on charity of the wealthy as a long-term solution to social aid.
If the dry cleaner is scared shitless that the president will retaliate against them instead of standing in solidarity with their fellow dry cleaners and telling the president to fuck off...yes.
I used to live a few blocks from the stock photo here. Nassau Ave and McGuinness Blvd. Moe's Doughs is on the other side of the intersection, go there for good donuts!
Seriously, every 5-10 years some tech bro discovers the concept of the city bus.
This is a bad take. National Review is on brand here at least, let's not obliterate Medicaid, but still eliminate helpful expansions that cover more people who can't afford health care. Also, the provider tax is a weird move states make, but it's necessary because of high cost of care.
"Republicans have a great opportunity to make Medicaid more fiscally sustainable for the rest of the 21st century, but Trump’s insistence on trade policy from the 17th century is getting in the way," Dominic Pino writes. wapo.st/3H6hxoh
Opinion | The GOP has a chance to improve Medicaid. Trump is making it harder.
Eliminating perverse incentives would strengthen the health-care program’s long-term prospects.

The PATCO strike and Reagan firing 11,000 air traffic controllers, only 850 of whom were eventually hired back, 10 years until atc staffing returned to 1981 levels, antiquated technology...sure it's not the current admin's fault but man the modern GOP is the root cause behind a lot.
Governor Hochul thought delaying this would help the race in #ny17 (it didn't). Josh and Phil over in NJ thought it would doom the bridge and tunnel people (it didn't). It made things better almost immediately, and those of us that still need to drive happily pay the fee. #congestionpricing FTW.
Policy changes often take years to show results.

And then there is congestion pricing in New York.

Here are all of the ways we could find it having an immediate effect: www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Fewer cars. Faster travel. Less honking. And some questions we still can’t answer.

I was there too, I laughed so fucking hard at that because they were so genuine and sincere about it. They thought that characterization and all the "rules" elevated their position and gave them some weird moral high ground.
There's also that whole defrauding Medicare thing...
Yup! Actually we bought our home specifically because transit is a very viable option (we live on the Main/Bergen line of NJ Transit). My wife actually takes the train most days, and only drives when we need to get back for kid stuff/appts early in the day.
I love this so much. The Senate has inadvertently championed how government is supposed to work. We fund programs, we calibrate costs, but don't attach weird revenue expectations like crazy supply side idiots. Which is why Chip Roy is so mad, he does want to "pay" for things.
Absolutely bring Wal-Mart and make it the first UFCW organized shop because that’s the only way it will happen.
I remember reading about dying Covid patients begging for the vaccine they refused. This is even worse.
What a sniveling turd of a human.
