Used to write about the Cubs. Still post about the Cubs, as well as the Hawks and Bears.

I think taking away some of the PP1 responsibility off Rinzel's plate is a good adjustment.
Shout outs tonight.
Colton Dach was effective on the forecheck and created several turnovers.

Matt Grzelcyk has been a pleasant surprise all season. Just rock solid basically every game, tonight included. Murphy had one of his best games tonight too.
Hawks put a ton of weight onto the shoulders of Vlasic and Rinzel to form a top pair, before either are ready for the assignment. The cracks have been showing for a while and tonight was another struggle. Little choice but to stick with it, but gotta make sure Rinzel in particular doesn't spiral out
Well, Hawks played 2 good periods, and their goalie bailed them out during an abysmal 2nd period.
That's kind been how the Hawks have played in a lot of games this year.
Bedard now with 5 G and 6 A during his 6 game point streak.
Bedard with an empty netter.
Knight with an assist.
Now 4-2 with 2:00 left as the Canucks score an extra attacker on the ice. Nazar had a shot to make it 5-1 into the empty net but it was blocked earlier in the shift.
Levshunov has been good in the 3rd. Aggressive in a good way.
But he just got caught on an over aggressive pinch and the Canucks break up the Spencer Knight shutout bid with 3:11 remaining.

Bedard and Levshunov with a pair of 2-on-1s in the 3rd period. In both cases they chose not to pass the puck and tried for a shot instead. Both guys were denied.
Try a little give and go next time boys.
Hat Trick for Tyler Bertuzzi!

This one on an actual shot and not just a tap in/redirect.
Hawks 3-0

Mikheyev against his former team.
Donato and Moore on the assists.
Bertuzzi again, on the PP, from his office at the corner of the net.
Setup by Levshunov and Bedard (extends his point streak).
Levshunov had an absolutely awful turnover earlier in the PP. But I'm glad he's getting PP1 opportunity. Rinzel has been struggling.
Hawks still lacking offense from backend
After Spencer Knight kept the Hawks even throughout a lopsided 2nd Bertuzzi scores early in the 3rd to give the Hawks a surprising 1-0 lead.
Overturned.
Right call.
Still 0-0.
Hawks still getting dominated though.
Hopefully this turns the momentum.
Hawks had a very good 1st period.
Completely different story in the 2nd.
Been dominated, and now down 1-0 despite Spencer Knight's best efforts.

Chicago is challenging the goal for interference.

Great start.
Korchinski, Boisvert, Allan have missed time.
Obviously there is a reasonable stopping point (I'm not sure about including Horton for one year of Skubal) but just about whatever it takes and I'd be down for it.
The last U23 player to post a point per game season in the KHL was Kaprizov.
Obviously a long way to go in the season and Kantserov is on the smaller side and may not keep up this pace, but getting a little excited at this point is okay.
Two more assists today for Roman Kantserov. He has 14 goals and 24 points in 23 KHL games.

good look at the ben johnson effect so far
And it's only a 1 year commitment, with the option to extend or just take the draft pick like it was with Tucker last winter, which is right in Jed's comfort zone.
If Tarik Skubal hits the trade market this offseason and the Cubs aren't among the most aggressive pursuers I will be very upset.

Steele, Wiggins, Shaw, whatever. Anything is on the table.
Tigers FO knows the Cubs roster and farm system well.
Not a surprise Cubs don't pick up the option on Kittredge. He was solid as a 4th/5th option for the BP down the stretch, but he's not a stopper, and Cubs can probably direct that money towards someone with more potential impact.
Only surprise is Orioles as destination. Didn't think that was allowed.
Cubs announce that they have traded veteran reliever Andrew Kittredge to the Orioles for cash considerations. There is a $9M team option for '26 in Kittredge's contract.

Chicago acquired Kittredge from Baltimore for prospect Wilfri De La Cruz at the Deadline this past season.
Sad that it came at the expense of my favorite team, but not upset that my 2nd team is now in 1st place.
