Do I like this better than layering? A little bit! You can actually make models interact with each other and make interesting scenes! The only downsides is that visuals on armor can be bugged from the index and model scaling can be inaccurate.

There's a bug where in Narcissus, the models can clip through each other! With the index numbers, models are in different layers which prevents them from doing that. But with the bug, the index just doesn't matter. Models have to be zoomed in or out to be in front of each other.
