Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

I know the inevitable demolition of this building will happen, but I cannot imagine how difficult this decision was for her.
I'll forever cherish the memories I have in this building. Many birthdays, hang outs and fundraisers were had.

I have a lot of fond memories in this building.

Opening in 1929 as Roxy Theatre the building could seat 1000 movie goers.
After closing in the 50s the building found a new life as Roxy Lanes, opening in 1960. With 20 lanes to enjoy, it was a bustling spot for Elmwood residents.

Honestly, 20 million is a drop in the bucket, for 2025 the budget for road renewal was 169.3 million.
Never mind that they cut the transit budget in 2020 and idk if it ever got fully restored. (a quick search did not yield clear results)

In praise of Transit

With the turning of the seasons, I thought I should test out the new transit system to get to work before the snow flies (I often bike in the winter, but transit becomes a necessary backup when the winter wind is fierce!) I’ve been reading and hearing many complaints, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

I have to say, I love it! Anyone who has travelled and taken public transit in a large city will find this system very similar. It’s fast and easy to understand. I was on a very full F6 from my South Osborne stop, so I decided to take a transfer at Osborne Junction. My transfer arrived within two minutes. I had the choice to take an F5 or an F8 downtown, so steady arrivals. This afternoon I have a meeting in the Cresentwood neighbourhood and I have many choices as not every bus goes along the exact same path, so I’ll see what’s flowing best at that time.

I don’t want to diminish anyone’s experience and I know transit had to do this whole system change with a very tight budget. I hope councillors, MLAs and MPs recognize how important transit is to building a stronger Canada and sustainable, resilient cities. This new system is the start of something great — let’s keep making it even better.

I really tried to be a champion of the new system, I was having so many conversations with people about why this is a good thing. You can't do more with the same budget. But the only thing Winnipeg spends money on are cops and roads.

Because when my bus went from 14 minutes to non existent, then 9 minutes I did not know what to trust.
