i am this account on twitter btw!!
the d40lfrs have awoken this morning, with 5352 returning to service after being dormant for a month
Everybody will be affected with the upcoming winter changes, thousands of riders will have no nearby bus route which is especially hard if you live in the outer edge of the county.
I’m glad to see people opposing the proposed route turn backs. Route 11 won’t serve Butler, route 24 won’t serve Greendale, route 80 won’t serve Glendale. These villages will lose all bus service, along with Hales Corner with the route 28 elimination.

Here in Milwaukee, we didn’t have a next stop announcement system until the mid 2010s so it was always impressive to see drivers announce the stops.
also putting the new livery on a gillig brt mold seems so cursed lol 😭
omg these all are extremely dangerous, idk which one i would pick but the vintage one looks cool
all the electric buses are sleeping so instead we get XD40s and a old d40lfr 😭
As always, let’s all try to have a little hope for the future 🫠
As a reminder for some, service cuts will go into effect on January 11th (pending the Milwaukee county budget vote). 3 villages will lose all bus service along with several other corridors. 22 routes will see varying frequency reductions as well.
You can kinda blame FOX 6 for this since they are the ones who started all the fear mongering on fare evasion (along with inaccurate numbers for the Connect 1). I mean it is FOX so what else can you really expect from them, they love fear mongering everything and especially public transit.
I would like to think most wouldn’t approve of this bill and it hopefully falls through but if it somehow manages to get passed, that will actually be insane. In what world do you take funding away from a bus system that is already going through a death spiral of service because of reduced funding.
Fare evasion without a doubt is at an all time high due to various reasons but, threatening to take away federal funding if they don’t “collect the fare” from passengers is just absolutely absurd. This honestly is as worse (or even worse) as Scott walkers mindset.
First of all MCTS is literally following federal guidance that told them operators didn’t have to ask for the fare due to safety issues (which is saddening that’s even the case but still). I don’t know why everybody is framing it as it’s all MCTS’s fault when they didn’t do anything wrong.
I feel like the one good thing happening is, 6th street and water street are essentially planned to be “BRT” corridors in the coming years with the proposed signal priority and center running bus lanes. If the city and county can incorporate these features along more corridors, that’ll be so great.
In a perfect world we’ll bring back the 2010 transit development plan that was made before Scott walker. Where frequency was expected to fall below every 20 minutes on most routes and all routes providing at least 20 hours of service a day.
I definitely agree with all those points. If MCTS at the very least return to 2022 service levels that’ll be great. It would be cool if MCTS tries to return to their original MCTS Next proposed frequencies. With HF service on Saturday’s and all local routes running every 16-30 minutes no matter what
I’m definitely not prepared to see the schedule previews for the upcoming winter changes. It’s probably going to be really bad. I really don’t know how much more service they can cut before they start eliminating even more routes.
On a Sunday!? I truly don’t understand why the GreenLine only runs every 25 minutes during peak times on Sundays. It’s been like that ever since the route was implemented. It really should run every 20 minutes on Sundays at the very least. I wish all routes had better Sunday service 😭
(Unrelated) but I saw a MCTS driver that looked like he was barely in his 20s, which was surprising but cool to see 😭😭
Really goes to show how important transit is, even for people that rarely ride the bus! Further service cuts will make MCTS become less attractive to non-riders which ultimately will reduce ridership even more. pls just fund the bus
I was on the GreenLine earlier this afternoon near downtown and omg it was literally packed due to the NoKings protest (even more packed than Summerfest!) I heard several people on the bus say it was their first time riding a bus and they enjoyed it, which was great to hear!
basically no north-south service west of 76th street and a bunch of missing east-west routes
MCTS bus system circa 2030 (if funding isn’t increased)
Honestly it’s hard to believe most of the cuts, especially the route eliminations will actually happen. But as each day rolls by, it become more of a reality. I am just so hoping for emergency government funding to MCTS right before MCTS actually goes through with the changes.
