“I’m old enough to remember when mainstream British politicians, who should know better, stirred up racial hatred as a path to power. You’re old enough to remember too because it was last Tuesday. And it was Robert Jenrick”

Cathartic anger at flag-flying racism.

Drum roll… the return of Stewart Lee!

The Nerve team is delighted to have signed Stewart as our first weekly columnist.

Here he is on how ‘consequential culture’, formerly cancel culture, works.

Black and white image of Stewart Lee collaged with CMYK coloured dots (The branding of The Nerve) THE NERVE is the headline, and underneath it reads ‘Your new weekly columnist’ and ‘Stewart Lee’ set against a bright yellow background.

Excellent to see the musings of cultural commentator/historian/comedian Stewart Lee, gone from the pages of the Observer, have now reappeared on @thenerve.news. Bravo to the Nervers (nervous?) for giving him a platform. Lees' latest piece on burning flags is here www.thenerve.news/p/stewart-le...

A tricked out $400 million Qatari plane and a Qatari Air Force facility in Idaho. Someone’s planning on never leaving office.

I mean, this is really desperate shit, isn’t it? I am a great deal more woke-sceptic than pretty much all of Bluesky but I honestly can’t be bothered to care about the National Trust putting vegan tampons in the men’s toilets and neither should you

JB Pritzker has also been emphatically placing Trump's mental decline squarely on the agenda. On our pod, he adds a new element: People around Trump are using his decline to manipulate him, so they're less likely to intervene. More Dems should say this. 1/

Fantastic interview about Shakespeare, between Richard Burton and a young Bill Turnbull on WATO. Recorded in 1984, just a few weeks before Burton died.

I guess so. That rules-based international order we see rapidly receding in the rear view mirror did at least make some effort to tackle this sort of thing. Oh well.

Jeez you would think something with that level of danger would be tracked post its useful life ? Falling into the wrong hands it could be a very nasty weapon.

Could Labour do worse than in 2019 and get < 200 (ie halve their MPs)? possible but unlikely.
Libdems have 72, could get 100 maybe more.
Tories could well get less than 100.
SNP had 50 in the last Parliament, could do again.
Greens could get 20+ by targeting consitutuencies.
Reform may get 150.

it's way too early to be thinking about the next General Election, so seat projections based on polls are even more meaningless than normal. But also, with a five horse race, the smaller parties will focus their efforts on a small subset of constituencies. And they could get 200 seats between them.
milesking.bsky.social
Ignore the seat projection.

Welcome to the 5 horse race that is now UK politics.
