Umberto Eco wrote about the 14 Common Features of #Fascism

Eco grew up in Mussolini’s Italy, experiencing first hand the rise of fascism.

It’s not a revolution, but by infecting society with anger and resentment, and by dividing people

US State Dept revoking visas for anyone they deem to have made offensive remarks about Charlie Kirk on social media.

For an intellgence debrief? Zero chance in hell Cai Qi did this in person.

Right after 13th BJ Party Congress. Months before 20th PC when he’s promoted to PBSC. And he had engagements in Beijing first two weeks in July 2022.

I just can’t see this being true.
mikeygow.bsky.social
Just no way.

He may have attended an event Cai was at. But my experience, any and all Politburo visits are highly coordinated, and minions are off limits.
mikeygow.bsky.social
Now I know you’re lying.

Li Qiang only ever does KTV, Chivas Regal, green tea, and a plate of amusingly sliced fruit.

“AI will take all our jobs!” they said.

“It’ll change the world!”

So far, it’s been Stephen Hawking videos and this.

A few other things, like the VoC in June 2022. This was in papers from Jan. everyone was talking about it. Speculation from 31st May that 54 letters had been received. Berry sent report on same day VoC confirmed. Boris won and the “intel” shown to be nothing more than conjecture.
mikeygow.bsky.social
But the meeting with Cai Qi (the senior CCP official) is just beyond the limits of feasibility. I sincerely hope they’ve got more than Berry telling Cash in msg app that he’d met with Cai Qi.

Interested to read your next blog. IMO there’s no way anyone can read this and believe that the govt position is that China doesn’t pose a national security threat
mikeygow.bsky.social
I just emailed Ken MacDonald and Tim Owen’s with some key questions over what is actually going on here

As soon as I click send, the govt releases the statements. Looking fwd to your take

From a China politics perspective, it makes no sense that Cai Qi would meet with Chris Berry. Highly sceptical
mikeygow.bsky.social
But these statements make it absolutely crystal clear: the “enemy” and/or “threat to national security” issue is not the reason this case was dropped.

It has to be on basis of weak evidence.
mikeygow.bsky.social
Any other #China #politics people want to chime in here?

Does anyone really think Cai Qi would meet in person to be briefed with supposed intel by someone of the status of Berry?

Please tell me the SIS had more than Berry’s own claims he met with Xi’s right hand man.
mikeygow.bsky.social
Especially just after the 13th Beijing Party Congress and when he had public engagements in Beijing on 5th, 10th and 15th of July.
mikeygow.bsky.social
It was incredibly nice of Cai Qi to take time out of his busy schedule to travel all the way to Hangzhou some time before 18th June to meet a 30 something English teacher who wanted to brief him about events he could’ve read about in any British broadsheet newspaper.

Very interesting.

I’m more convinced everyday that evidence they had was based on “expert” statements from people who really don’t know what they’re talking about

And also made the accusations because (a) they were jealous of credit CRG and Cash were getting and (b) Cash wasn’t anti-China enough

Thanks Bobblers.

Now I’ve got an image of you in my head, in yer birthday suit with your todger tucker discreetly between your legs, doing a wee dance.

And thanks to this post, so does everyone else.

Ken MacDonald discussing Jenrick’s attack on the judiciary - makes an excellent point that every single voter in UK needs to understand in the pushback against Populism

MPs aren’t delegates.

They’re representatives

Judges interpret the law. They don’t implement govt policy

I went to the cinema to see House of Dynamite after a long day at work on Monday. Rushed from work to make the 5:40pm screening.

Fell asleep during the trailers and woke up literally 10secs before the final credits started rolling.

Is that A Level English Literature or English Language

If so, can we also make this a requirement for all post-16 school leavers along with A Level Maths?

(Narrator: But it wasn’t A Level English. Literature or Language. It was an ESL qualification for non-native speakers)
ottoenglish.bsky.social
All of this is being put out to placate the right wing press...

In the meantime, it's causing fear & confusion. As I understand it:

● this only applies to some people on skilled visas
● it's not "A level English" it's something called SELT
● much the same requirement exists elsewhere in EU
mikeygow.bsky.social
Yup. And had Big Nev been playing in the post-Bosman era, I doubt we’d have held on to him so long. Definitely not beyond 91/92, and likely before that.
