That's how each of my books started. I typically write a scene centered around that initial spark, and then I let the characters decide the rest. Play around, allow your ideas to marinate, follow your muse. If it's right, you'll write. Good luck!

A (good) agent knows the fine print on terms, knows the going rates to get the best $ deal, and could get you with the proper publisher for your work. You can move forward without an agent, but go through the contract carefully.
