Right, taxes might be a bit higher but often you feel like you are getting the services you paid for. In Spain we get almost feee healthcare and college tuition is €2000 annually.

As an American academic in Canada, it’s always worth considering how much of the difference in taxation you get back in social services (i.e. healthcare) that you would have to pay for separately in the US.
